  1. By rectified I mean dealt with the constriction on the buttress by girdling root. An exploration of roots below ground would be interesting but why, when the tree is in fine health, go and create extra wounds for possible infection. Don't see that there's a need personally.
  2. Thanks justin. Booked up for a couple on friday.
  3. David, the optimist in me would like to think that the vascular pathways of the root above came off second best to the buttress, leading to weakness, dysfunction and then failure of the girdle. Looking at the wound wood at the point of failure I would say that below it may be fairly well connected? But yes it would be interesting to have a look at what's going on below ground with some soil removal but the tree is in a public park. Would take some convincing to allow, let alone pay for this exploratory work. I am however hinting at the moment to the head gardener to put some work my way so who knows. Warren
  4. I'm down to do it at Merrist Wood in September, I was informed up to the information day a couple of weeks ago that the cost was £850 but government have pulled funding so is now £1800. I would say if you want to go into consulting as I do its the logical step to take. Look at the cost of the PTI 3 day course which you wouldn't need apparently after this course and I think the prof dip is still well worth the money.
  5. I used to be in the air force but it still staggers me how things like that get off the ground
  6. Looking forward to it, hopefully another book I wont have to fight in the library for when doing the level 4 this year
  7. Yes Rupert, just after Dunorlan entrance coming in to T Wells. Where else would I be sitting in traffic.
  8. Random find, spotted it sitting in traffic yesterday so thought I'd take a closer look today
  9. Just ordered Tree roots in the built environment off Amazon. Thought £49 was a bargain considering previous prices for it.
  10. Came across this big old girdler today that the oak seems to have rectified itself by the main stem exerting enough force that exceeds the tensional limits of the root.
  11. I never wear a watch at work as dont see the need but am a watch man. Polar heart rate or garmin gps for training 2 x tags and a breitling superavenger, the big boy.
  12. However you ended up doing that tree people will always say they might have done it differently, that's what a forums for, discussion, tips and others experience. Great opportunity to learn a lot from one tree. Bit jealous, would have enjoyed that one myself. As others have said, a monolith would have been good but at the end of the day we are here to serve the customer and advise on what might be good to do. Their call. Good job
  13. No problem, let me know when and we'll arrange something:thumbup1:
  14. Some pics on Silky's thread I think:thumbup1:
  15. Nice shots Tony Good for you, if you have a passion embrace it which you obviously do. Good to meet you on Thursday all be it brief but look forward to a tour of Hatfield Forest next month'. Warren
  16. Got a shut down booked with uk power networks on Wednesday, no charge, just very poor customer service! And have had to notify all houses that are going down because the power company haven't yet and they've had 12 weeks to do it.
  17. They may be different now but I used to drive a tata a few years ago. Kept on stopping at first because I thought the handbrake was stuck on. Gutless and unreliable.
  18. Thanks David, looking forward to Helen Read's talk on Thursday
