  1. I had as customer yesterday who I had a discussion with about what to replant in the place of a Birch( pendulus Sp) that I removed due to wind damage. She started saying that she had seen 'a birch tree of somekind with very white bark' that had multi stems from the ground. Jacquemontii I presumed. I said I could formative prune one but how about planting a genus which naturally has the shape that she wanted. This is'nt about what to plant here, but it got me thinking about going against what nature intended the shape of a tree to be, excluding being planted solely for the purpose of being harvested for fruit or wood. I find a similarity with children who's parents have a dominant idea of what they are going to be from a very young age and who then grow up to rebel. (Weak unions etc) Interested to hear your opinions on formative pruning for aesthetic reasons only. Warren
  2. Sounds like he's a lucky boy to a certain extent! Speedy recovery.
  3. Can someone do my next tax return for me please as well?
  4. I like that alot, might have a little barefoot freeclimb myself! Has been shared.
  5. I've had 8 shredded wheat(not the mini ones) every morning since I was 10 with a couple of bananas on top. I might even have a couple more if its my birthday!
  6. Had the same with Rhus, no reaction one year and big reaction the next, same species.
  7. As Hamadryad said, they do sometimes lose a large proportion of the lower canopy at once, especially in a dry spell. £350 though, you'll probably find the arisings in a wood down the road.
  8. I know horse riders can use pretty robust back protectors, worth a try.
  9. I completely understand your thinking but I'm not sure there would be anything strong enough that wouldnt seriously impair your movement to make a difference to a falling tree's weight.
  10. Thought I'd do the right thing and introduce myself.Names Warren, worked as a tree surgeon for a few years up until 2000 when circumstances changed and got involved in estate management. Graduated last year with a degree in landscape management and looking to furthur my qualifications and knowledge specifically in arboriculture to become a consultant. Good to join a forum where I feel right at home talking about fungus! Warren
