Could always get your 346 refurbished and ported . I have a spud ported one and as you say unbeatable in its class .

I have found its just a couple of pumps on the primer bulb on my 560 when hot .

Not tried one myself but , most people on here rate it highly over the older Mk one . I think it will pull an 18" bar but instinct tells me it would be better balance on a 15" but that would limit what you want it for in a tree .

I think the distance from the center line of the tension holes and the back of the slot need to be pretty much the same . I know the slot forward of the holes is longer on the older bar but I don't think that matters . Also the oil hole seems to be in a different position . Might be a problem ?

I never engage the chain brake when moving about and I will be 69 this Januarry . Never had an accident . Will I go to prison ?

I don't know the figures or any data but I know some accidents , even deaths occur when cutting in a tree . The classic " holding and cutting " is at best a nick on the left hand and at worst a cut tendon or a cut artery and bleeding out . Thankfully I have never experienced the above other than my mate cutting his knuckle .

Husqvarna did something like that on a 346xp I seem to remember . Not popular and I think it was dropped . You wont beat a standard chain brake in good working order in the case of a kickback IMHO .

You would be hard pushed to stop the chain quicker than the inertia brake . Try it. Get your saw , rev it up and poke the nose of the bar hard into a log . The brake will come on instantly ( provided it is in working order ) the saw will recoil in your hands some what but the chain will be stopped dead before it gets anywhere near you .

Your not quite right on the inertia brake bit . It does not require a reactive force by the user . Its a reactive force all right but but usually totally uncontrolled by the user . A kick back for example will set the brake on before the operator knows whats happened .
