Its more the fact that they don't have proper wheel bearings , only plain steel bushes .

I tried those Husky roller thingys about 20 - 30 years ago . They are fine the first couple of sharpens but the plastic rollers wear down dropping the file too low . If you cant file free hand your best bet I recon is the oregon metal plate that the file clips to .

Other way round me thinks . As the cutter becomes narrower and lower ( all sides taper to the back ) you wont get the larger file in the gullet so drop down a tad .

Yes I remember when Husqvarna brought it out for home owner type saws . Didnt they call it a Pixlel chain ?

Mine is a wood only stove and has no grate so don't have that problem .

I don't think any wood slumbers " cleanly " However I sometimes put a big lump of Oak on last thing at night ( it being relatively slow burning ) and in the morning there are enough embers to get it going quite easily .

That's the complete opposite of my experience with poplar . Different species maybe .

Also if you stack rings one on top of the other they will stick together after getting wet .

There is lots of potential fire wood where I live ( mostly felled ash ) l with easy access for me but , South Downs National Park want it all left as habitat . As you say the OP needs to get permission first .

Ceder does indeed burn fine , I have burnt a whole Atlas blue ceder . I also like Leylandii , excellent fire wood . I thought about doing the Balsa thing but thought , no but , alas you did it 😀

Its A hardwood , being a deciduous tree .

I think its good . Different species my vary a bit . The key is get it split and in the log store as soon as . Plenty of air but covered from rain . It absorbs wet like blotting paper if you don't . Skyhuck ( a member on here ) boiled his central heating with poplar .
