  3. I have been using a saw since God had his first puppy and I have never encountered what Saul is on about . Perhaps I should get out more ?
  4. It will go through a bit quicker when its not so brand new and when the chain is sharpened back about half way .

  7. That's an assumption . Could have been the usual Stihl oval crank shaft/clutch bearing syndrome that is well documented .
  8. If you connected a chain to a crank shaft and anchored one end and the other to a tensile testing machiene I am pretty sure the chain would snap before the crank shaft .
  9. Saul , you have seen a crank shaft snap/bend due to a chain contracting after it has cooled down ?
  10. Nor I . At the end of the day it will be slack anyway due to ware .
  11. The only reason I mentioned milling is that RH does a lot of milling and I don't . I still think its bollox though .
  12. Aberlour 18 is Speyside and a bit peaty but there is so much else going on . Hellishly expensive breakfast if you put it on your cornflakes ! 😁
  13. Exactly Gary . What I do is when filling the chain oil I might spill a little on the bar if I'm gonna spill any but that's it .
  14. Yes . Its bollox really . After a days cutting the chain will be slackish any way . Need tensioning before the next sharpen up . Never in all my life has a cooling chain bent a crank shaft ! EDIT . May be different for milling .
  15. They will coppice from a stump to another tree in a few years so will take off again .
  16. Now , just got a bottle of ( in their word ) Glenmorangie very rare 18 year old single malt . Exquisite I must say .
  17. Obviously I don't know the circumstances but some words come to mind " felling licence " TPO, conservation area , amount per calendar month , extraction etc etc etc ....
