  1. i built 2 splitters, ive a stihl maul. if i was to have a steady stream of clean workable timber id use the axe, if getting decent loads or knotty dry etc timber hire a decent splitter or buy one, i doubt theres anyone here regrets overspecing on one!
  2. personally i hire me with it so i wont break it! bear in mind some timber can really fly off them..
  3. any pics????? name or part number on the pump???
  4. ha, im stuck too! i currently drive a 01 caddy tdi, i have had hiluxes for 3 years, mercedes 312d hi roof lwb sprinter, the caddy is light on fuel and easy maintained, it wont go on a verge though! the hilux is a pig on diesel but it would pull anything i want. i considered geting a unimog instead of a lux but im adssured the running costs are too high... if you need a multi use off road vehicle choose a 4x4 pickup, if you need a tipper, buy a transit! im going to try keeping the caddy and get the hilux ( i dont have any car)
  5. he has an ad on donedeal, not over impressive though i am sure he has customers, maybe were over exposed to seeing high output on top spec machines!
  6. i think its hard to beat a good processor with a home build.... im all for building my own stuff but sometimes you need to just buy one, definately wouldnt be interested in that

  8. 4.2 animal, yeah i was googleing them to see what i might find and got the tread here!
  9. still building them, ive pics of a new one somewhere, a mining company use them here in ireland
  10. wear plate makes a great splitter but you need to mill it ! as said house the blade into the rsj...
  11. class, tho in fairness if any of us had the chance to go nuts in a 600 + hp fiesta it would have to be entertaining viewing!
  12. i kept the ram low on mine so the pressure would be less on the slider.... the slider plate has a kind of L plate bolted on either side with a few high tensile bolts, oh a bit late but watch the angle of your knife, too short and thick and it might not work, a long razor sharp one and itll kind of cut timber but can get stuck with the resistance of timber passing it
  13. what is the business end of a kindlet like an x splitter i assume???
  14. 7 ton ram ? wont be splitting hard wood you need big power for multi splitting
  15. your 4 or 6 way splitting head looks to be wrong to me, the outside edges need to grip the log first! if it catches near the upright blade first itll spread the wood rather than split it, if im wrong my humble apologies! heres mine, its getting a few more attachments when i am not busy! it self loads too [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODczC-0HmR0]big homemade log splitter Ireland splitting 3x4x1 foot beech ring - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R3ZeS-Spfo&feature=relmfu]Home made Log splitter working on beech - YouTube[/ame]

  21. i had a hilux, now havea 1.9td caddy, great fuel economy but have to buy a trailer for the quad. hilux was great but couldnt fit the quad when the toolbox was in the bed and was harder on diesel, tyres and maintenance. if i get busier i think a crew cab pickup and a 16 - 18 foot trailer would be ideal...
  22. around the top of the page theres a search tab, if you search youll get most answers, lads arent too keen on re posting answers... look at whattimberyou expect to split, moisture, size etc if you read through past treads theres a load of info here
