  2. tidy machine! though if i was ever to justify one id need a 3 pt linkage and pto, though if timber is a success for me i would put a palfinger and body onto a utility one..
  3. i was wondering weather there were agri and utility models, there are nearly no agri ones here all utility, that rules that out! thanks...
  4. firstly, i cant see myself getting work justifying one, that aside i know the ex electricity supply board trucks make between 3 and 6 k depending on the amount of exporters on the day... if you were to take off a utility body would it be difficult to install a rear 3pt linkage and pto setup or are they fitted at the factory?? thanks dermot
  5. forest flex stuff is good, ivea similar harness for the kombisystem, good enough but no left handed version....
  6. ill be building two from scratch, one like the logic, iron baltic trailer without crane and a logging arch for the bigger stuff, as with everything use sense, we cant all afford new shiny expensive gear... honda ireland just quoted me 8000 euro for there trailer, where can anyone justify that?????? maybe i need to review my rates....
  7. recently bought a yamaha kodiak 400, good bike, i was going to buy a honda but a guy in the trade told me about some gearbox trouble in a few models... bought the kodiak because it uses a belt system (ultramatic) seems straight forward system... selectable 4x4 wearing bearclaw tyres i pulled a twin axle trailer whose brakes were stuck on on 2 of 4 wheels! want to builda couple of trailers for pulling timber now
  8. i like ax men, american loggers is a bit more like european methods with there machines anyone into the yarders should look up a guy called rusty grapple who is an encyclopedia of yarder models!

    Hi

found the tractor to be bad in some types of ground so ive got a yamaha 400 kodiak and am building a trailer for it...
  10. this is a good argument for stihls online sales policy!

  13. i have a phone number for a man in co cork who has one if anyone was looking, last fitted on a 90s ford tractor cleaning sewers in london apparently! thats all the info i have on it, anyone else know stuff about those winches i dont??
  14. seen a towable petrol splitter in a hire place today for 1240 euro including vat, that had a 22 ton force, even if the 22 ton was a bit exaggerated it still sounded cheap to me. it was horizontal and could be used vertically too...

    Hi

valid point! i might knock together a plate to suit the chokers and see how it goes, i was reading some other treads here about quad and trailer vs tractor, dumper and winch combinations, i think ill try the plate, worst comes to worst ive another tool for the tractors...

    Hi

im torn, i was looking at videos of quads and trailers working and like the idea, the downside to winching with the tractor is id have to forest prep it and the two decent tractors in 4wd we have are way too good to use for timber... the small one that would suit winching is a 44 hp 2wd which wont pull bugger all at the best of times. so its a choice between bigger load and slower turns or a smaller load and faster turns....

    Hi

anyone know where to look for a used quad trailer with a crane on it??? first thinning pine and after much debate i think a quad and trailer would be the best way to go.... anyone got advice??
  18. ive diggersand tractors for farming but think a dingo orsimilar is a great idea....
  19. apparently here its because they want to match the machine to the customer... not being judgemental but i know more than the dealer about the saws, they only have the franchise 2 years... it might also be how they justify the price, seeing as you are getting the dealers time rather than something thats mass retailed..
  20. if looking at a hilux stay away from the 2.4td, not as good as the d4d or the na 2.4, i have one and there not a great engine! here 85 euro fills the tank at roughly 1.40 a litre and i get 350 to 450 to the tank depending on conditions... l200 watch the pulley problems but a nicer truck inside, the rangers arent bad to drive either

    Hi

Dermot here, stumbled on the site while looking for a winch..... read some of the treads and was well impressed, same attitude as i have, see if you can help someone and share info.... i do a small bit of tree felling, thinning etc, ive a stihl ms660, 029, 192t and a kombisystem km130r with pole pruner... drive a hilux also have a major tractor saw and built my own log splitter... I have a job coming up that i will need a skidder so im thinking of a thwaites 3 - 6 ton dumper with a rear winch.... cheap and unbreakable combination or am i missing something?? thanks for views, criticism, all taken on board... thanks!
