  1. i really like both styles! bombing huge chunks of macrocarpa down cos you have another 30 to do that day and don;t have to tidy is great. thinning a mature hardwood in a nice setting has a different satisfaction!
  2. that is sweet! never heard of the severn bore til now. must be a wierd thing? how often does it happen? i'm trying to master freeboarding, but feel slightly more like napoleon dynamite so far
  3. yeah looks good, its the "clean timber" you speak which seems like an important use for this. absolutley hate the amount of sharpening required after logging thinnings pulled out with my horse using just a swingle tree!
  4. thanks spud, i'll give it one last check before i order something
  5. thanks, yes tried a variety of combinations of different working plugs, blowing the cylinder out with an air line, pulling over with no success. yes after burning the excess fuel out the exhaust, heated a plug up and popped it in, again with no effect..... haven't tried disconnecting the kill switch, but it seems to work grand as with the plug out you can seea good spark, then no spark when kill switch is off.... mmmm order one of these gunson hi gauge compression testers, will see if that works. i may be totally wrong but saws with bad comp usually run a bit or at least fire eh? just that they run rough - well this has been my experience anyway. thanks again for all yer help
  6. well tea spoon if fuel on a dry sparj plug didn;t work. i have tried using the plug, carb and flywheel from my working dcs5000 to no good effect. exhaust was full of fuel/2 stroke so burnt this off, no better. whats the best way to make a comp test kit then - i suspect something is amiss thanks, bill
  7. yeah i bet it cuts fast! you nutter! red hot chain?
  8. i just assumed i would need another one but maybs i can fix it?
  9. the throttle butterfly is leaking air as it is so worn. i think the hole in the ally that the throttle butterfly goes through is worn as symptons went away when grease was applied. can i fix that?
  10. whipped it out, was running at 12,800 rpm, so actually leaned it a bit. i might have tuned it a bit rich for run in though! seems louder and slighty better in cut
  11. yeah i have been subbied in for people and they have wanted to send me out with a groundie with aerial rescue and had to juggle things around to be able to do this. lots of people aren't bothered i agree, i often climb with no aerial rescue, just saying for some firms a groundie with aerial rescue is a plus. yah?
  12. suggestions of ones to avoid/get for a non oem (not £95) ms200 carb. forest world ones ok?
  13. never used one, look pretty home user to me. also the makita 36v li ones look ok
  14. check this post from a few weeks ago
  15. if you keep you eye out you can get older 80cc plus stihls, dolmars and occaisonally huskys for £200 or less - just seen an stihl 050 for £20 on gumtree. ideal milling saws - often no brake, but torquey and spray oil everywhere!
  16. buy sound cancelling ear defenders for everyone. definately worth finding out which tool is the culprit! sound travels in wierd ways
  17. pfffft spikes and prussik, how fancy can you get! i have just reverted to this you really know where you are when you climbing barefoot, no spikes slipping, no fancy harnesses to fail loler etc
  18. yeah i know! they said they will ban me if i post it or similar again!
  19. i think aerial rescue cs38 is a gooden to have, even if you never want to climb, being able to do it means you will be more useful to an employer
  20. you getting any chain creep? anti normal was the quickest way my brain could describe it - i still get lefty loosy and righty tighty muddled up when i'm upside etc!
  21. i have recently got a pair or scarfell's which are like torture in spikes compared to my old treeme big boots. interested to hear what people say
  22. clutch springs can just weaken, but look fine, but normally you will find you get chain creep on idle when this happens. does it cut out on idle with no chain brake on?
