  1. crown lift with a long pole saw?
  2. agree fully with you. d-heads steal stuff and they are from many walks of life. i said it before but people got to stop generalising and tarring all travellers the same. it wouldn't be tolerated to say all women/northerners/gays/arsnel supporters/gingers/irish/ etc etc are stealing scumbags would it? (don't answer that) i got a husky 50 that wants a new piston and carb boot and a husky 37 that i just about got running, a ms170 in component parts all slowly getting screws taken off them that have dissapeared at some point
  3. sure people will tell you different, but i have always got away with larch cladding green. its pretty stable and unless putting it up in mid summer i'd say you'd be ok. worth pre drilling holes perhaps, larch sap wood definatley doesn;t last that well, but if you have big eves i wouldn;t worry too much
  4. best thing i done with a computer was when it became frustratingly slow, i converted to ubuntu, now it boots quicker than any laptop i had, and when you need a program you just select it and it downloads for free and installs itself. costs nothing and worth a punt before you next upgrade a computer
  5. have recently changed mine! so fresh! its like having a new haircut (not that i know) mike yours is class!
  6. if your subbied in by another tree firm its hard to complain/alter about the work, but if your asked about what to do with a tree and the client says "i want to topped" or "limbed" then i ususally find you can discuss what long term impact this will have and the come round to 20-30% reduction
  7. nought wrong with not having secondary anchor point if you have good reason for it and not cutting anywhere near you rope i reckon. i use old climbing rope for light rigging alot - prob should sort that out? should loler my kit more than once a year year and half (i do inspect it regular myself, and i'm a SE climber) climbing without a aerial recue climber present (opinions please)
  8. with ubuntu or libre office if you just google your question 9/10 you get the exact answer. open source is the future!
  9. yep libre office id good. i got sick of microsoft windows and converted to ubuntu OS, which is mostly great, and a lot faster!
  10. mmmmmmmmmm chicken of the woods quiche.....................
  11. basically, less leaf coverage on the furthest points of a crown, to me would indicate that the tree is feeling pretty stressed out! if the ground is lifting, i'd say the roots are knacked! v hard to really be conclusive without seeing it in the flesh- prob best getting someone local to give you a bit advice
  12. thanks for the advice spud
  13. so would you pump up/suck through the spark plug? - yes pressure or vac tester is there any hope with just a new piston ring?
  14. for starters Nicholas Salvador ( i assume you refer to him) was a british born, british citizen who was clearly mentally unstable, i hope you are not in anyway linking the colour of his skin to his behaviour? secondly, as i suggested in my original post you could read about post war immigration into the UK to fill the enormous void in the labour market which was actively encouraged. this should help you to see atleast some benefits of immigration. i'd love it if you could stop making huge generalisations about ethnic groups, like the plumber you mention. seriously wtf? that plumber does in no way represent that nations workforce's ability than you or anyone else does for british workers clearly we are both pretty set in our ways and stubborn, and i will admit you would have a pretty hard time convincing me of your opinions on immigration. but i do try to keep an open mind, and know that immigration isn't a simple issue and i think its healthy to discuss it. also making sweeping racist generalisations IMHO doesn't really buy you any ground or help the debate.
  15. that's right pal, anything other than British is all child rape and terrorism. tbh i'm amazed your consistent zenophobia is tolerated on here
  16. that video made me think more about how insignificant our efforts appear to be to help change this massive economic difference. i cannot help feeling that we have a responsibility to do significantly more to help those in desperate poverty - not just because we have more, but that we only have more because they have less. for too long our economic and foreign policies have been dividing, destabilizing and screwing over the world poorest. frankly my locality could do with a bit more biodiversity! i'd welcome some immigration, and believe that it possible to "preserve indigenous culture" and enjoy and mix with other cultures. america is a interesting example of the effects of immigration into an already well established indigenous culture in the 1600's - illustrating clearly some very negative effects for the then "indigenous people presently residing there", yet is now regarded as probably one the the most diverse countries around with an incredible mix of culture. also for all those that don't know about it - you might be interested to read about the British Nationality Act of 1948
  17. borrowed a vac and pressure test kit from a pal - he says yes 125psi is v.low but the saw should run/fire. whats the best way to blank off exhaust and inlet port? the kit he has fits onto hat looks like a bit brake pipe or something? how should i join this onto the blanking plates. thanks
  18. can you use oak, larch or douglas?
