  1. Reckon they are a little over 200 quid new. Personally, I have found the bottom end hobby type saws from still and husky to be ok when running fine, fiddly to fix, and need fixing more often. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Yeah, honestly it was totally fine with wee detail carving saw, plus pretty impossible to get a carving bar to kickback. Best not to carve onehanded, though if you could do 2 carvings at a time with two toppers you'd make a fortune at shows. Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. That's pretty exciting. After quick glance found some at 520 quids which is about same as a 550xp Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. i block with a normal ground saw sprocket nose, then switch to 1/4 .050 14'' for carving. never really seen the use in using 3/8 as the point isnt that pointy.
  5. also have noticed these husky 425s for sale lately, maybe for carving? maybe for tree work? says carving, anyone had a pop with one?
  6. i used an makita dcs230t with a tiny .43 10" sugi bar for a good while. thought it would do my wrists in carving with topper, but its all so light and manouvarable its was great and very handy. wouldnt replace a 14'' .50 carving bar however. obvs i was roped in whenever i did this. now on with an echo 270wes, which is fine. if it will be your only carving saw, get a back handle.
  7. yes, a friend of mine has a 242xp, excellent and light, pretty similar to dolly 430 or dcs 4301 hens teeth though now
  8. i mean
  9. sorry, cant resist
  10. why use an alaskan when you could get one of these? seriously? sounds bad when i say it but i usually manage to use a ladder and slide it along the timber about a meter or so before i get to the end, making sure its parallel to to mill (with the saw left in the cut.). sure this is not 100% but its def ok if your careful and not much hastle.
  11. Join and artist union, they offer p.l for sculptures up to 10m of height, about 30/40 quid a year. So cheap it's worth doing I reckon, I think aue was what I used. No good for arbwork though Sent from my C6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. I wouldn't bother with non genuine sprockets, bars etc. Saying that I have had a non genuine side cover (Inc brake band etc) of a 357 for about 4 yes now. Seen some good graft and amazingly it's still fine. Similar experience with cheap (farmertech) carbs, so cheap wasn't expecting much, but they seem to be still fine. 13. might be me being daft but anytime i try and search for old artcles etc i always get the "too common" or no results searching for things like "sap on ropes" or "spruce sap" "ropes" etc never seems to work any searching tips anyone?
  14. i have found all the spouts break in time and now use an oil spout for my fuel and lasts well
  15. i bough these stein ones once. they all broke after 10 mins. i'll try get some fat rubber
  16. i tried a 10'' for pruning, which was ok, and have used an 8 for carving, honestly can't imagine bothering getting 8'' bar of climbing, now running a 12'' ms150 chain which cuts faster than the 10'' 3/8p i had on
  17. tank breather? old fuel lines? fuel filter? shite in gauze in carb?
  18. spark plug colour?
  19. i have the 420 (makita equivalent) and its is good, very pokey, maybs a bit heavier than you would think but very good snedding saw. obviously stuggles a bit when buried. infact you can buy it for £180, still got paint on its first bar. not tried the echo
  20. just ordered one from here £270 including delivery at that price had to have one! i'll let you know if it never turns up etc
  21. so do the 1/4 echo bars just have a solid nose like a carving bar?
  22. i use these made in uk by nice person, one nearly failed prematurely and he asked for me to send it back so he could examine it, then send me 2 replacements and some freebees and they have been excellent since (he thought exhaust heat had damaged part of it). he was also up for customising them i.e rings, thickness of webbing, length etc and at under £9 a pop can;t go wrong
  23. soon i shall retire my 200t and buy a echo 360, but this makes me think maybe i should get this 2510. or is it just a fantasy that it could do the job of a 200? when i say retire i mean no longer rely on but keep as a backup saw. or wait for this new dolmar top handle
  24. and a sprocket right?
