  1. Fair play, I wasn't really criticising. I've seen some of your rigging vids and enjoyed each one. Terrible shot of a moustache in one vid if I recall . I have one lad on my team who really makes me proud on the lowering, but sometimes when it comes to logs he finds it harder to guage than brash.

    Gyms :)

Ouch! Burn! Thanks mate. Sprite through the nose is deeply unpleasant.
  3. I never did, until I bought a 441 for my personal saw. The difference is night and day. I hate it though. I'll take the vibes for the extra power of the 460. Never bothered me anyway.
  4. Nice vid James. How long did it take to finish? Was the drop zone tight? There looked to be a few bits that could have been let run a bit more, but it's hard to tell from the video. Looked like a fun job.
  5. I don't buy it, that's the problem! I'm due a new line soon, I'd live CB with a splice, since I'd like to use SRT more soon, but getting it ordered will be a no go since no major suppliers stock it online! It seems that the ropes people are recommending for SRT are not available with a splice. Might just have to try Tachyon.
  6. Posh git! That answered that question!
  7. Yup, I re spliced my 11mm XTC Blaze after 1 years use (it's never taken me that long to cut a rope before!) and a few cycles through the washing machine. It was hell. My palms blistered, I broke my girlfriends meat tenderiser on the bury, the banisters have never recovered from being used as and anchor, and I kicked the cat. To look at the finished splice, I'm sure I'm the only one that would climb on it. Then again, I'm the only one who saw how much blood, sweat and hate it took to finish the sod. Next time I'll just buy a new line.
  8. The New England HiVee is nice too. Both are really good lines.
  9. Polydine is supposed to be the mutts, but unless you're rigging really bloody big I can see the point in spending that much over say, Sirius.
  10. Any similarity to the Ropetek Sidewinder?
  11. yeah Mark, you big huggy ****!
  12. Spares? Flash git! My spare chains are the ones I've already replaced and given one last sharpen! Think about it, you'll never need to buy chains again!
  13. Don't have much luck with that saw, do you?
  14. Easier is not the word you should be using. The pulley turns when it's needed, and doesn't when it's not. It's not hard to spin. It works exactly as it should. Perhaps the answer you are looking for is that it works exactly the same as it has from new. Am I correct in understanding that you are unhappy with it because it doesn't continue to spin after the rope has stopped moving? Have you actually tried climbing with it? If you're finding it hard to tend slack I would imagine that to be an issue with the hitch rather than the pulley? Does the pulley turn easily by rolling your finger tip across it? If I seem unhelpful I don't mean to. I have used this system for a long time and an just trying to figure out if your problem is with a faulty item, of if it's simply different to what you're used to in a minor way
  15. Yale XTC is a great rope for a Prussik. The HiVee is nicer in the hand but has a little more stretch. I don't get the cheaper bit though. Not only is the XTC one of the best value for money ropes on the market, do you really want to be climbing on an inferior rope to save a few quid? If you can make it last a few years but the best you can find. Avoid the Marlow.
  16. The only two Stihl saws that I prefer over the Husqy equivalents are the 201t and the 460.
  17. I've seen many worse saw operators with their tickets and ppe!
  18. For the most part this is true. Really refreshing to meet a client who loves trees, rarer still the ones who are proactive rather than waiting till a tree is far do big and asking you to cut it in half. If it were my house I'd fell it though
  19. Yes. I have climbed on the same a Rapide for 3 years now. It only spins as the rope tends slack. Once the rope stops moving so does the pulley. There is nothing wrong with this! If you wanted the same as you already had then why did you change? I would not expect any retailer to refund an item that works as it should!
  20. I think Gary was challenging your opinion that the tree is TOO close to the house. That question will always depend on who you ask, and the owners opinions towards trees.
  21. The rapide has a bearing, so slightly more friction than a free wheeling pin. Your standard hitch climber will make a noise when you tend slack. The rapide won't. It turns smoothly on it's bearing, so won't spin after tending. I hate the standard one.
  22. Haha I knew it! I bloody knew it! So long as you weren't a Hedge Hunter too all is good All this excitement is giving me a hot flush!
  23. Don't know, mines a pulley saver (homemade). I just cut the prussik off and re splice some tenex.
  24. Still guessing at the gorilla thing... I have an idea though! Ohh I love a good plot twist! Personally I'm glad your back, but then I imagine you might make me regret that on occasion
  25. To be honest I just risk it. I'll replace the pulley every now and then and relegate it to the rigging kit.
