  1. I quite like 8mm Sirius too. Cheap and cheerful.
  2. He's on about the pantin bro. Yeah, they do add slightly more wear to the rope. Bit of fluffing. Nothing catastrophic though.
  3. They'll all work, just some better than others. I'm currently using tachyon and Armor Prus. Kernmaster is supposed to be decent for srt
  4. Starve the trolls mate.
  5. Nah, not at all. I'm an employee, you're an employer. Just different viewpoints. Problem is, if you're soft with staff, they tend to take the mick. If you're too tough, you're a bad guy. Lose lose. Personally if I damage kit, I'll replace it out of conscience. Same applies for emergency absence, I'll take it unpaid or make up the time. I thought this was standard, but from what I've gathered over the years it isn't the norm.
  6. Only one screw to drill. Bottom one is just loose. It's either gonna be a scrapper of get it fixed, depending on cost. I know it's a difficult question, but could you estimate how much you'd charge to sort out the mounts? Maybe with the usual tach and checks? I understand it would strictly be an " estimate"!
  7. Alright mate, I'll clarify. I wasn't in any way insinuating that you were an arsehole. My key word was sincere. I work above and sometimes beyond for my employer. I like to think I'm valued. The other side of that is if I ever had such a situation (I'm thankful that so far I haven't), I'd like to think my employer would be understanding. If it happens five times in a year you either have a mickey taker, or an extremely unfortunate employee. I guess it's down to you on how sincere you seem the situation to be, and how much you value the employee in question.
  8. So I found why the old 150 was rattling today! At a guess the holes top and bottom of the crank shaft are the cylinder mounting bolts? They are both stripped. Aluminium paste on each bolt. The upper one had snapped off in it's mounting. The upper is connected to the earth wire, which would explain why it wouldn't shut down. Seen this before? It's been dropped a couple of times, which I figure is the cause.
  9. Balls to the hypothetical, Ben, what was the situation? Me? If it were an emergency, and I mean a real emergency, I'd take the fastest way I could and apologise later. I'm not about to sit around waiting for the boss to figure it out. After all, the situation means more to me than them. I wouldn't charge them for the day, but then I wouldn't expect any crap about it either. On the flip side, if I were employing a person, and they sincerely told me they had an emergency to attend, I'd get them to wherever they needed (within reason). I'd rather be a few hundred quid down then an arsehole.
  10. I'll take photo's of my knee ascender tomorrow. Should be pretty easy to figure. There's a bit of splicing on mine, but nothing that can't be achieved with knots
  11. Mines over 3 years old, and only recently started letting water in in heavy rain. Spoke to Yvonne at Clarks and apparently mine was one of the earlier ones. The newer ones are made of a laminated fabric which should never need reproofing. I just proofed mine in the wash and it's good as new again. For me to get 3 years out of a jacket is pretty impressive.
  12. Good man. I'm still getting to grips with it after years on ddrt. Plenty of threads on here about it. When funds allow it's worth getting a throwline kit for initial access. It's one of SRTs strong points that you don't have to isolate a branch like in DDRT.
  13. I know! If I was one of those mugs who'd paid for an old HAAS I'd be fuming
  14. Like I said, not interested, at least 'til you've washed it.
  15. Yeah, 'cept I've little interest in Aspen at the moment.
  16. Be interested to see that one. Seen the new HAAS "velox"? I'd be livid if I'd bought a HAAS last week and just seen that!
  17. Where are you based mate? There's normally someone nearby that would be happy enough to have a climb with you. Spring is on the way and that's rec climb season!
  18. So just to clarify, I'm using RL at the moment, with fresh non supermarket fuel at 50:1. This is about as good as I can get right? P.S. Have good makeup sex guys!
  19. My bad, I have both. The petzl as it is is crap. Maybe the mod will sort it. Go for the CT what experience do you have as a climber? If you're used to ddrt you'll need to completely forget how you would normally work a tree.
  20. oh, and here's my neck tether. TM elastic and tubing, inside Boa sheath.
  21. I'm still learning, but it took me a couple of times descending and ending up with my heels up my arse before I started remembering! Start out with a pantin and the wrench, don't bother with a hand ascender. I can only echo Matty, I spent many hours at home splicing and at work trying to get my homemade haas to perform well. Spent a bit on the components too (though most were kindly donated). It's okay now, but I'll still buy one cos it'll be better. They've just bought out a posh new one too. Bear in mind that ascending SRT relies completely on ascenders. They're not just an aid, but a necessity. But the right one.
  22. Steady on mate. I hear the same from a lot of business owners. They work 14 hour days, seven day weeks, and earn less than the lowest brash dragger for their troubles. Why? To provide jumped up climbers like me with a secure job, regardless of their own personal sacrifice. Instead of your cynicism maybe you could recognise business owners for the charitable martyrs they are?
  23. Yeah sure, that's why you do it!
  24. Fair. I suppose there's the added risk to insurance etc (I.e. You crash or get caught speeding on work time it affects your personal premium). It never crossed my mind when I started driving for the firm I'm at. Just happy enough to be able to make us more efficient. Then again I suppose indirectly my money went up because of that. Plus nobody wants a team leader who can't drive the vans!
  25. Sod paying him extra, tell him he'll drive of you'll find somebody else who will! Should you pay people extra because they drive the work vans?
