  1. Cheers Ian. It had been topped a while ago. Made an interesting climb for the trainee. I eyed him in for a bit, then got impatient and nipped up to do one side, and eyed him on the rest. Usually when I'm happy with a reduction I get the feeling the client will want more off. Luckily she was very pleased.
  2. Nice little birch reduction from this afternoon. Good practice for our climber in the making. Forgot the before pics.
  3. Well you obviously know what you're talking about. I'll bet there's a few people who've read your post and are shaking their heads in wonder of the years they.'be wasted researching the benefits of the Eco side to arboriculture.
  4. Before I opened this thread all I was on my phone was: "it could be sawdust in your rim..." Choked on my beer!
  5. Even with the reported cracking problems Steve? If I had that budget I reckon I'd go for a 190 and get a towing license. From what I've read the two are similar in performance, which sounds impressive for the 230, but on the flip side it's probably asking a lot of a machine that's built to be sub750kg. It's taking on a lot more than it's predecessor, the 150, but all of the structural framework has had to be made lighter.
  6. No thanks. You can't see the ecological benefits? Do you know anything about it?
  7. Oh I believe you Mr H! It seems to be a very involved practice. Sadly not really used much in the low end domestic market. One day I'll get the chance, and I'll post photos so you can tell me how rubbish I am at it
  8. Remove the exhaust and look down the port to check for scoring on the piston. These are vertical lines scored into the metal of the piston. You should be able to feel them with a fingertip.
  9. You won't need to demo it for your assessment. I think David Humphries has done one or two in his time. He'll be along soon to elaborate. I heard he invented the idea to pass off accidental tear cuts as B.S.3998...
  10. Ms461 Great saw from what I've heard. 20-25" bar no problem
  11. That's ridiculous, next you'll be suggesting he cut and chucked the lot!
  12. Actually 70cm from eye to eye seems to be about standard.
  13. Get a Tpo on it. Not that it'll stop some people mind!
  14. Don't know off the top of my head mate but I'll measure up when I get home. Arbortec make the Breatheflex. Very good company to deal with. If you ring up I'm sure they'd be happy to help out. Any more personal info and you'll need to buy me a drink first.
  15. Nope, high metabolism and erratic eating habits mean I can eat what I like and still weigh in at just less than a wet fart. Yesterday's dinner was a 16oz burger with chorizo, cheese, Garlic butter and chips, with a side of beer. Still 60kg!
  16. I have a 28" waist and the XS Breatheflex are nice and snug.
  17. We have the Janeson ones at work. They're decent, and cheaper than the AUS, but still not cheap. I bought a set of Stein poles with lopper head and Saw blade for around £150 from Jones' They seem good quality, and you can buy extra lengths for a reasonable price. Not insulated though.
  18. By all means, flog the husky topper. I'm sure the new stihl is a grand saw. The 357 is a gem though. I got mine ported and I'd never lose it. When I get time I'll upload a vid of it.
  19. Buy a dozen spare clutch bearings. That should give you a chance to get it run in
  20. I'd be keeping the 357 until I'd decided if I liked the Stihl. It's predecessor the 361 was brilliant (I still run one) but reviews of the 362 haven't been sparkling.
  21. I'd suggest keeping the 357. Great saws. I got mine ported, put a faster sprocket on it, and a 15" bar. Great fun. My take on selling kit is this: you might get £300 for that saw. That'll be gone within a few weeks, and unless you seriously need the cash, you'll have nothing to show for it. If you keep it, you'll always be able to use it.
  22. 4mm 5/32
  23. How the hell did you manage that!?
  24. What about if you don't use the chai brake?
  25. Hahaha love it! Killed some poplars today. 3rd climb on SRT. Beginning to make so much sense now, I was flying! Asked a lot of the inexperienced groundies on the rigging. Balance slinging big limbs. Only one bash to the streetlight. I told the lad on the ropes that if it happened again I would " enter him without lubrication". Unfortunately for me he was better after that.
