  1. I know, perhaps I should stop being a pedant for new year. Hardly my worst habit though. I wonder what the fastest recorded ascent on a blakes would be? Could make a good competition!
  2. Doubt he'll be doing any quick ascents on a blakes mate
  3. How old is your rope? A cambium saver will preserve your rope, but it'll take a hell of a lot of use to wear your rope with natural crotches. As for SRT, walk before you can run. Learn and become competent on a simple doubled rope system first. These are the basic building blocks that you can then further your techniques on.
  4. I think it works out around £40 a day for under 21, which is £800 a month or so. For a dependant with no rent or kids, that's okay, especially since they're learning a trade, getting qualifications etc. There's nothing to stop you paying a good candidate more. As Eggs mentioned a discretionary bonus is a good plan. Try being the nice boss who pays trainees over the odds. Experience shows it doesn't pay off. IME it's good to keep people hungry, until they're at a stage where there such an asset you wouldn't like to lose.
  5. Rubbish. If you want a good wage work hard and learn and see your wage rise. Apprentices can be attractive as you can mould them to how you want them to be, instead of the fresh out of college hot shot climber who knows the job better than you, won't take instruction, and thinks he's worth £150 a day.
  6. D splicer scissors! And a 4srt tether apparently, but it got lost!
  7. Trust me, I'm not the only one. Or have you forgotten, sweet pea?
  8. Think we're talking about different things friend.
  9. It flipping well wasn't good for my maul! Split it whilst green, same as Euc.
  10. If you get a chance it'd be nice to see a vid of it cutting some different sized logs pics of the bar mod too would be good.
  11. Funnily enough my folks lived there for a few years. When I went to visit them I noticed a real absence of anti social behaviour compared to the UK. It isn't considered anti social to have a beer on a park bench at lunch time over there. It was common to see well dressed smart people enjoying a can of the local lager in the open at lunch time. If I recall, Swiss make citizens must take part in compulsory military service from 18. Yeah, there's a 5.56 Sig in most houses, and ammunition is heavily controlled.
  12. I'm curious, has anyone had a 362 that's been used daily for 2 years without it breaking down?!
  13. Ha no thanks. Just asking out of curiosity. Lot of ringing and splitting in that!
  14. Big lump Al, nice cutting. What's the plan for the timber?
  15. Tyrannosaurs were only sexually voracious because their little arms couldn't reach their crotches.
  16. You may be surprised. I'm pretty sure I remember reading that a saw will perform better on standard fuel as opposed to the higher octane equivalent. I think it had something to do with the standard fuel detonating easier than the high octane fuel. Of course, a branded fuel (shell, bp, etc) will be better quality than the supermarket equivalent, with a lower ethanol content. How many posts before someone tells us that Aspen will run better, be cheaper long term, and make our breath fresher?
  17. Second Keith, top bloke.
  18. Fawcett Inn Cider
  19. In Portsmouth there's a pub called "The Fawcett Inn" That was quite amusing until I went in and found they made their own cider. Guess what they called it!? Quite obvious really!
  20. Actually cackling here!
  21. Nice one Joe! Always found it better to be modest. Lot of people big themselves up to the point where they can't live up to it!
  22. I've read of a lot of thefts, they are all horrid. For some reason this one touched me. I hope it gets sorted. I cherish the kit that I've saved for and looked after. I feel for you mate.
  23. Well it seems you know your saws well enough to figure out what bar you want to run I mainly climb, so I prefer a fast saw as opposed to a long bar. Nothing worse than having a max bar length saw constantly bogging down when your on spikes on a big stem.
  24. General rule of thumb for max bare length on a pro saw is displacement (cc) divided by 3. 60cc is 20" bar etc. I prefer smaller bars in general for faster cutting, less fatigue and engine wear.
