  1. That's going to look incredible when its sanded and oiled! Lucky you!!!
  2. Without tickets probably about £80 as your employer probably cant insure you to do any climbing or chainsawwing without nptcs
  3. Sounds like you want all the good parts of being a boss without all the bad parts... Being a good boss isn't about throwing your toys out of your pram on the internet
  4. That's ruined your jeans
  5. Haha at the end of a hot summers day I was using it to tap a wall plate flush onto some post and rail fencing and I just caught the corner of it and gave myself a glancing cut.
  6. I gave my Gransfors a kiss earlier this year..
  7. In my opinion its out of our hands. Joe public don't really care that much as logs are often the last thing on their minds. At the end of the day its another bill along with gas, electricity and water... Its always money over quality unfortunately
  8. I have the otter box which is ok, screen protector doesn't fit flush on the screen though. Had the same problem with the griffin but it was much worse and the whole case was just rubbish compared to the previous one!
  9. Yeah its quick establishing but is normally the first thing to get eaten by deer so would have to be fenced off which then adds another cost to producing firewood from it. An estate I work on got us to fence off a small ash copse and the regen from it is unbelievable compared to stools exposed to animals
  10. One thing that bothers me about selling firewood is how everyone presumes that hardwoods are the best. Granted the give off the most amount of energy but they also take a lot longer to grow. In my opinion the 'best' firewood needs to be defined not just by how much energy it gives off but also by the amount of time it takes to grow. If you compared how long an Oak tree takes compared to something like spruce or pine the amount of wood you have after 40 years would be a lot different. In my opinion the best hardwoods for firewood are alder and sweet chestnut as they grow very quickly, can be coppiced on a regular rotation and also are the most resistant to damage by deer and other animals. My log pile consists of birch, spruce, hornbeam, aspen, sweet chestnut, yew, willow, some oak, ash, alder and also cypress which I think, when its dry, burns pretty well. I don't understand the softwood racism in this country.
  11. All I ever need is a sharp graft
  12. This board was too big for my thicknesser planer so I used a handheld electric planer on a very shallow cut and a spirit level. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. I got tired of my type c hiflex's in the summer and bought some stihl dynamic type a's. They are fairly cheap trousers but have vent zips in the back. Very nice, especially when there is a breeze..
  14. Hmm, what he did was wrong but did Chiellini really have to fall over and roll around on the floor from a bite that didn't even draw blood? Luckily the proper world cup is on next year and its in our country!
  15. I reckon that's gonna be a pretty long day... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Seems to be a good year for mozzies as well.
  17. The company I work for sometimes used to have a cabstar, when it was loaded it was a pretty nice ride. Unloaded it felt a bit like you were driving a boat especially as the steering wheel is pretty much flat. Like Peasgood said, when they're unloaded they will get stuck on pretty much anything. Got stuck on a 3 inch concrete curb and had to get some builders to push me out....
  18. Nice slick tyres there! I use an arctic cat 700 diesel on the farm I work on, quite a wide quad with loads of torque. Used it a few times to pull out hung up trees. Also have a Ferrari compact tractor which is alright, its only a small one though and doesn't really feel that powerful. Never used either with any forestry equipment though.
  19. Still you got to hear the roar of one of Mick Goulds recovery trucks!
  20. If we are talking about rural locations, how often are you within 30 yards of a fox? I agree with what you're saying though, marksmanship should be tested on targets, not on animals.
  21. I don't really see the point in trying to shoot something like a fox with such a small calibre, unless you can guarantee a lethal shot every time I'd say its pretty inhumane. .22LR travels far to slow to shoot foxes IMO
  22. Minimum calibre in the UK you can get to shoot foxes is a .17 or a 22 hornet
  23. Horse chestnut from the first storm Nice rotten euc An ash tree that took out quite a large shed. Same house as the euc Spruce tree that had fallen into the crown of a neighbours beach tree.. Took the one next to it out as well! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. Closest you will get around here is probably Coppards in Crowborough who have a tracked Vermeer or a bit further out with Orange Plant hire who have tracked Carlton grinders
  25. reducing an oak tree in Bargemon, France. Not a bad place to work! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
