  1. The Woodsmith's Store: Tools - Green Woodworking Tools - Green Woodworking Accessories Thats where I get most of my hand tools from
  2. Just finished my CS30/31 and Kingswood and it was pretty good. You get a place to stay for free as well and the company I had was great. I got taught by a bloke called Jim who was brilliant fun! I think it came to around £900 for me
  3. Here are my three attempts. Not quite up to the design of yours but would still do the job!

Just an album of the last three years to present
  8. Im not really sure, but we are thinking of turning the Chestnut planks into raised beds for peoples allotments. Maybe about £50 per raised bed?
  9. I got the 30 inch Alaskan because I'm thinking of buying a bigger saw. Only problem I had with it was that my dad tightened the U clamp up to much on the depth adjuster and cracked the post clamp thing. You might be onto something with the ladder idea though. Have any of you guys done it? Could do with some pictures of one or something
  10. Yeaah next time I will time it through some different type woods and PM you the results. Ah well I will go down the firestation next time and ask to borrow one of theirs!

  15. Purchased an Alaskan with a 20 inch chain a couple of weeks ago through Rob D who was very helpful. Was on my CS30/31 at the time so I have only just got round to using it. I ran it with my 361 which did a pretty good job but it wasn't exactly fast... Started out just doing a small length of Sweet Chestnut for a bit of practise and then went on to a larger piece of Ash. I really enjoyed seeing all the grain patterns inside the wood and was happy with the results. Will add some pictures shortly James
  16. I was just after an opinion on what to do with the ever growing amount of Oak and various other wood lengths we have stored in the barn. We always keep the best looking pieces of wood instead of cutting them up for firewood and would quite like to do something with them. We also have quite a large amount of Sweet Chestnut that could be milled into something more usefull than firewood. Basically our options would be to either: Buy a 660 with a 30inch alaskan as most of our wood isn't much bigger than 28" Hire someone with a mobile sawmill to come and mill them up I'm currently leaning more towards the alaskan because I could then mill wood as I find it rather than having to collect a large amount and then get it milled. Moreover I'm pretty sure milling it myself would be pretty good fun! Thanks,
  17. We use a 110 hi cap. The only thing is, as the name quotes, the back is huge and takes a lot of logs to make it look properly filled up. Sturdy as anything and logs just seem to bounce off it when you miss....
  18. Thanks for all the advice guys. Got a positive result back from Kingswood Training so hopefully they can get me a date for a combined one during the summer holidays.
  19. Yeah I can't understand it either. I was supposed to do one at Hadlow in the Easter half term but they rang up a couple of weeks before and said they wouldn't let me do the combined one because I can't have enough experience due to my age. I have just got a reply from Kingswood who said they would give me one but I would have to pay £730 for the combined one. Whereas Hadlow said I would only have to pay for the assessment costs because I am under 19 and in full time education.
