  1. Your not dead yet so plenty of time for more.
  2. £300 is my first bid. Would be more if access is better.
  3. Do it green and use proper peg joints. You will be waiting a long time to season 8x8 oak. It's hard to know your design bit you may need 10 x 10 posts so ypu can form some gun stock posts to support am 8x8 ring beam.
  4. As steve said. Log will still be green. If you want to use it for door Linings it will need to milled and seasoned until it gets to about 12 % max. My guess is its close to 50 as it stands. 40mm boards will take around 18 months to get down to this I would think.
  5. Good luck with that. I'm only up the road from you and I've been looking for months.
  6. Just gazump him and go with someone else. Ebay may moan but he's the one messing about. If you click in the listing you should find something that says cancel sale . Go through the motions. message someone else and sell it to them.
  7. Speak for your self mate. My life sucks. I'm currently sunning me self in majorca for a fortnight, and when i return I'm looking at having to do a job I enjoy for 4 whole days a week! That doesn't include the time I have to Sacrifice in weeding my vegetables and cleaning out my pig and chicken house. What am I supposed to do for the other 2.5 days?
  8. If your mill has an hour clock on it, it can be useful to recOrd how much it is actually in use. This can help you if the council do get involved. However if you use it all the time then ignore this. My dad has a small small holding and the council were asked to investigate noise complaints from his compact tractor. Turns out he'd owned the tractor about 18 months. And only 35 hours had been added to the clock since purchase. This helped my dad prove that his neighbour was an unreasonable arse.
  9. Not sating you should quit. You say that trees self seed and grow all the time. But that's in their ideal environment. Sometimes keeping things in pots fir longer and increasing pot size over time can give you a larger healthier tree before you plant it out. This means it's more likely to thrive. I was merely staring that maybe a bit more effort is needed in your garden for that paticularl tree than in some one else garden
  10. You can email him through his website. Steves skittles He only has a land line not a moblie. If you can't get him pm me and ill send his number.
  11. Your going to have some fun learning how to set a bandsaw up. Takes a while to learn how . I recommend you watch some videos of how to be you tube. Assuming you don't already know that is.
  12. Speak to ian at tuff saws. He sells great blades and is very knowledgeable. He will point you in the right direction fir different tasks.
  13. Definitely exist as an acquaintance has one. Any more than that I can't tell you.
  14. 20k. Isn't that one digger and it's trailer.

Worse than what. Nuclear war. Don't think so.
  16. In think u have probably been overpaying yourself then.
  17. Missed this the first time round. I'd be interested. Any idea of running costs .I appreciate it's 2 kw but how much time is the kiln unit running compared to idol over a day?
  18. I use admit that I'm tempted with the timberpro backpack blower. £150 on amazon with good reviews and 2 yeae warranty. Only usually buy quality tools but it would only get occasional use. Anybody got one?
  19. Where
  20. But do hibiscus trees self seed and grow in your yard?
  21. Hopefully more off now.
  22. Also I would assume 6 or 7 man days for the deck so would price up at 8. 15 percent on materials and labour for your profit and your away. Steps and hand rails and anything fancy are extras on the above it required. As j said timber screws from screwfix. And either passivated or stainless deck screws (customers choice)
  23. I recently quoted 6k for 2 yurt floors at 8m diameter so over 100 m2. This included travel 200 miles. 75 per night b and b in a pub for 2 people fir 4 nights. And the ground was 1.5m out of level over the 8m. I overpriced it as I didn't want the job and got it. I will pay my labourer 1200 for the week, pay the b and b. Probably be home on the 4th day. And make around 2.5 to 3k out of the job. Pretty sure yours is overpriced. Big J spec is still over what I would do. 8x2 only needs sports every 3.5m I would run 8x2 6m purlins along the short length. With a Post either end and two in the middle. So posts every 2.4m but only 8 purlins so only 32 posts. Then 4 X 2 joists at whatever centre you need for deck boards at right angles So 32 posts 8 8x2 x 6m And 4x2 If 400center approx 216m or 600 center approx 144m. This I reckon is cheapest way and plenty strong enough. Then few extra lumps of wood for a bit of bracing and your away. Reckon thus will cost around 1.2k for materials that brings you down to around 3.5k overall and your making excellent money too. Not sure what prices you have been given but 6k on material at any spec is ludicrous. U could do solid oak sleeper decking for less than that.
  24. Agreed chainsaw milling is hard work. I've milled with 35 and 10 degree chains on my alaskan and 10 gives a better finish. On my lucas slabber however ivec experimented with the angle of cutter more. Really because when I first got it i struggled to get it to behave. Your right that cutter length depth guage and consistent angle is important but i found that 15 degree cuts faster and leaves it rougher. 5 degrees cuts slower and leaves it smoother abd that 10 degrees really is optimum.
  25. If there clean butts can be used for all sorts. Traditionally trailer and wagon beds as it's very impact resistant. It also takes treatment well so can be used in most applications where soft woid woukd be used like garden furniture, sheds etc. Think you will do well to sell it though. I'd Have a little bit of it if you were closer and it was cheap.
