  1. Ok. Went yesterday for a 4 hour drive to look at a parcel of oak as i didn't trust the seller new what a saw log was. Glad i did as the pile was 85% firewood. I'm getting pretty desperate for some oak right now. Small parcels and single trees are fine. I need around 6 tonne of minimum 4.2m to build some trusses. I will need alot more but not as urgently. Please let me know what you have or if you have one coming down. Many thanks James
  2. Bump. Still needed.
  3. We have the betting on our log shed and it seems to work well. Keeps all but the worst driving rain out.
  4. Thanks. I have 3 051s I use for occasional cross cutting of big stuff . I have a 30" bar for them. Just wondering if you run it on anything bigger.
  5. Carbide tips on this one screw on.
  6. I'm hoping i wont need another one ever. Carbide tips are replaceable so short I'd catastrophe it should be good. I was tempted to try and find a friendly Australian to send me one as I bet they don't cost anywhere near that much over there.
  7. So here's what I've been waiting for the last few months. The planer kit fir the lucas mill. It has to be the most ridiculously priced lump of metal i have ever bought, but it does allow me to plane and thickness boards that are 1.8m wide and 6m long. Cost £1050. And to top off being voluntarily ripped off, i went to assemble it and the bottle of loctite is empty. Not dried up, never had any in it ever. Still, moans over i have some, lovely wide boards that i will be planing up soon and i will report back when I've done it.
  8. Nice one Clive. What do you ask for one of them?
  9. What's the biggest bar you run on your 051 and How does it pull. Thanks
  10. Need to tip some blades now as I only have one left so I will make a video and create a youtube account. I'm no David bailey though. I have just bought some different teeth and am going to try a different method of braising so we will see how that goes. I did make my own jig yes. I will get some shots of that in the video. Will probably be next weekend before I get a chance though.
  11. Cut lots of dimensions. The big stic was lovely and clean so we cut that into mostly 1 1/4 and some 2"boards. Some of the other bits weren't so good so they became 4x4 and 8x4 sleepers for a garden project. Wrecked 2 blades that day hitting metal so 10 teeth to replace. I re tip the blades myself so not too bad. I give the customer one free blade and charge £7 a tooth after that.
  12. Only this one from early on. The pile obviously grew alot bigger than This.
  13. Couple more pics of the big beast.
  14. No pics of the middle bit. Will ask the customer to send me the pics he took. He had more time than me!
  15. Never get round to taking photos of my milling jobs as in always too busy. Thought I'd try to change that. Here's a couple if pics of today's job. Nice 5ft oak, 3 ft oak with some rotten patches and a few 2ft lumps.
  16. Coffee machine. £200 Decent fairtrade beans. 10 or 15p a cup. Leave costa alone and make your own
  17. I reckon there's good money in 4k to do it with a spade and axe.
  18. Nice one.
  19. Osmo poly x for me ,but all above will give good finish
  20. [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/dowel-screw-right-thread-150mm/dp/B001MSHPT8]dowel screw with right thread M10, 150mm: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/310ne9THyPL.@@AMEPARAM@@310ne9THyPL[/ame] I use these for fixing to wall. Screw 4 or so into mantle. Then drill wall. Trying to make back of hole bigger than front. Test fit mantle. Use hammer for any fine adjustments. fill holes with fast set epoxy from a silicone type tube. Push mantle onto wall. I usually hack plaster off whwre mantle is going to help hide any shrinkage but not totaly necessary in a pristine room.
  21. How much dust does it take to fill it? One mug full?
  22. Interesting. Have you ever tried putting planings in something like that?
  23. heres a picture i found on the web of something similar to which i build. Although mine is a bit tighter and more refined. But you get the idea
  24. No pipe. Build a chimney thing out of concrete blocks. Put a couple of canes or something across to hang stuff off. I usually hang a ham, a side of bacon, chorizo type sausages and some cheddar etc. Remove one of the lowest blocks in chimney and use more blocks to build a tunnel maybe 3 blocks long with a block laid flat over the top. Hang your stuff up in chimney. Cover chimney with piece of ply. Light fire in far end of tunnel. Cover with planings then close tunnel up with blocks over fire. Keep fire going for 4 days. Remove cheese after 2 days. Divine. Hope you understand what I'm getting at. Is very low tech abd cheap but works a treat. Just build it dry and put it away when finished.
