  1. The difference I suppose Is that your diesel doesn't get burnt and may find its way into water courses etc. Nor really sure of the impact though.
  2. Thanks for all the advice. Started putting stakes in today. Got 700 trees with stakes and guards and 300 shrubs with canes and spirals. Not really at all interested in trying to plant 200. The amount of people said there coming to help we should only gave to do 60 a day each to be finished by Sunday. Will upload a pic when it's all done.
  3. Thanks. Will give it a go soon.
  4. Interesting Alec. Will this solution take all ferrous metalsstaining off wood . Like the big blue marks in milled oak containing metal. Cheers James
  5. Hi. When you guys are planting with stakes and deer guard tubes, do you always hammer the stake in first or plant tree first then stake? Any other planting tips gratefully received as planting 1000 this weekend. Also how many trees with stakes and guards do you think is doable in a day for one man. Cheers James
  6. If the stove us larger than 5 k then you need a vent. (I think) building control will enforce this Don't put it in the fire. Just in the same room as he fire
  7. In my humble unbiased opinion,
  8. Unfortunately she has moved to Arizona. Was a bit upset about the other six. For the record it was me she was looking at not you. Take it easy.
  9. We are just outside mk to the south west. About 15 min drive from city centre. Thanks
  10. I need some chip and haven't had a lot of luck offering a free chip site. So if you can bring me some please let me know load size and price . Cheers James
  11. I quite enjoy cutting feather boards with my lucas. Tis a bit wasteful but I can rattle out boards as quick as an 7x1. As for the over cutting below just line up the mill with these on the next cut. I just use the exact dimensions on the lucas instructions and my boards are all +/- 2 mm or so. Which i think in sawn timber is pretty good. You just have to get in the rhythm of it. I've also slabbed dome big old 5ft beech but do find it a bit of a chore. Got a job coming up of 4 x 10ft x 4'6" Oak butts to slab into 2" boards. Not really looking forward to that but got some ideas to speed up the cut a little. I quarter saw a bit done a few plane trees and you have to quarter them yto get lace wood and i also like to quarter saw decent oak where possible. Don't do it 100% properly but 85% or so I guess. Will try to create an image of the cutting pattern I use. I also have the planer head on order which should be with me any day now. In fact I must phone fuel wood tomorrow and check it's where abouts. I will post some pics up when it arrives. James
  12. Different guy. this was 2014 He climbed into the chipper to unjam it, Thinking it was switched off. It wasnt .
  13. Its when the rope wraps round the flywheel thst it goes quick.
  14. If you're properly insured your insurance company will deal with it.
  15. I have a whole heap of tropicals I bought from a gun stock maker as he would only sell in job lot and there was some walnut slabs I paticularly wanted. These are still in the workshop but soon to be planed when my lucas planer head gets off the boat. Apart from one small paduak mirror frame ive never used any of the tropicals because there not British.
  16. What sort of wood is it steve?
  17. Wooden floors are great. A properly laid floor is water resistant. Not much is water proof.
  18. How times change in 1200 pages.
  19. I haven't seen the programme mentioned, I will try to find it. Is it a channel 5 job?. Surely how much the chain blunts depends on the type of earth your cutting through. If it was cleanish soil woukd it still blunt the chain dramatically?
  20. Yes. Same rules apply as to driving on provisional.
  21. You may be right. I'm only looking on my phone but to me it looked like a full width plank of a slightly tapering small tree with the bark removed.
  22. Also search the forum for 'milling books' for a couple of other threads on this subject.
