  1. That's faster that the lucas slabber . 15 or 20 mins I guess. But it is a lot easier.
  2. Here's some pics of me messing around with a 3 ft sweet chestnut ring for a customer. Told him it as unlikely to work but he was determined to try.
  3. Interesting thread. Not noticed it before. I've used my lucas slabber a few times but never on anything as narrow as what your cutting. So it's hard to compare speed. It does look like yours is cutting fairly fast. I do find the slabber slow . I can rip the tree into 8 x 1 probably 3 times faster than into 2"slabs. Never thought about using a winch. I'd be interested to know from someone wgat sort of time it would take to make a cut in a 4 ft by 10ft oak with an 880 or 090 in an alaskan?
  4. If I were you i would try varying your diet a little. ;-)
  5. Just took some pics before I read your reply. No end grain pic but can get one tomorrow. Dug this 2" board out the stack. Been outside covered in tin and a little damp one end bit mostly dry. Havent got round to moving that pile to my new shed yet. Forgot but do have inch boards too.
  6. All 2" guess it's about 1ft or so wide. I can only identify aa maple but will uncover ut and take a pic for you to identify. How do you tell the difference?
  7. What size do you need steve. Got some maple I milled a couple of years back but can't remember what type it was. Was either field or Norway.
  8. Surely for greedy boards wbp should last as long as marine unless you live close to the sea and there's a lot of salt in the air?. I was taught the only difference between good marine and good wbp is the salt water resistance.
  9. There everywhere mate. It's from pin hole borer. Not normal wood worm.
  10. What do you call a pad sander? Do you mean jusr a random orbital sander. Cheers
  11. I can plane and thickness it with my lucas mill. My new planer attachment should hit the port next week. Then I can plane 6ft wide. I am 100 miles from ipswich though but it's an option if you get stuck.
  12. Not too far from me. I may be interested but pics are a must. Also could you tell me the diameter. I woukd only be interested in the main stem once everything is cleared away. Could you also describe what the access is like too. Cheers James
  13. Milled today. Pretty holey in places. But quite attractive. Will get some better pics when I move the timber to the shed .
  14. I bought some site boards off a company called signsmadeeasy. I told them what info and images I wanted on them , they designed them emailed me a proof then printed them plus two free magnetic signs. Signs are now two years old and have been great. Brilliant company highly recommend them.
  15. I feel let down. I opened this thread thinking it was titled "planting marine ply" . Thought someone had sussed how to grow it.
  16. No. He has now borrowed a trailer and taken them to a static mill. They Identified it. Reckon he would if got some cracking boards out if it.
  17. And the prize goes to . Anyone that said Leylandi. Not the English hardwood he tried to convince me they were.

  19. It's around 34" down to around 30" at 11ft long We will see. It does look very holey.
