  1. I'll meet you there with my pistol, can you make it for dawn?
  2. That would land you in court for unfair dismissal!
  3. Well explained. Of course being a tonne bag it's easier to work out how much it weighs compared to the volume it holds!
  4. If ncs doesn't want it I will come and grab it tomorrow. I'll pm you my number. Cheers
  5. Is it millable or firewood?
  6. I wish I was heavily reliant on a salary of 190ķ. At the moment on heavily reliant on whatever I can earn on a self employed basis.
  7. Rob you are a legend. That bar is just what the doctor ordered. Hope you weren't cutting with it when it snapped though. What do you want in exchange for it. Cheers
  8. Definitely would like it mate. Cheers
  9. I might be interested. What do you think the weight is of the millable section? Is it wellingtonia or coastal? Cheers
  10. Couldn't you just use a hole saw abd drill through. If you wanted the back sealed you could glue a plug in.
  11. So from what i can gather ,27rx is 5 skip or hyper skip. 27ax is skip tooth version. Does anyone know if this might be what lucas call 3 skip?
  12. Cheers. There is an obscene amo on unt of adjustment available the lucas slabber so don't know that tension will be an issue. I did read of someone using a standard granberg ripping chain on a lucas slabber and apparently it nearly ripped the carriage out of the side of the mill. The last loop I bought off lucas I seem to remember costing about £230 so there is some scope to experiment. Don't fancy a 190 link chain snapping on me though.
  13. Thanks I will call baileys at some point and find out exactly what it is. Can't work out if it's 3 or 5 skip.
  14. THanks. So if this is correct a 100ft reel woukd give me 7 loops and cost 495 where as 7 loops would cost 625. So there is savings to be made but considering i wouldn't buy 7 now, I only need 3 2 x 3 skip and 1 x 5 skip. So should I spend 267 on 3 or 495 on 7. I guess I'd need to buy rivets and links too. Looking like 3 it is. Any how, does anybody have any experience changing these chains to 3 or 5 skip?
  15. Bring stupid. I can just measure how many feet in a 190 link loop. Ta
  16. Anyone know the number of drive links in 100ft reel of 404 063 ripping chain. Trying to figure out how much cheaper it is to buy a reel and not loops . My loops are 190 drive links long. So how many would I get from a reel? Cheers
  17. Thanks. I'll keep that in nind.
  18. Thanks
  19. I have asked rob before if he can supply 3 or 5 skip and he said no. Just priced up a granberg 190 link ripping chain from there and it's considerably cheaper than lucas 5 skip. I assume If I take toot with the grinder it will be exactly the same as the granberg 5 or 3 skip ripping chain? I've never made up a chain loop myself (though im dure i could)so maybe I'll just buy a couple of loops off rob and have a play. I have a granberg ripping chain for my alaskan in 404 063 so I will compare it to my lucas chains.
  20. Hi. I need an old 404 bar to make a sharpening jig for my lucas slabber. Doesn't have to be great but needs to be straight for at least a foot of it. Payment or donation to children's trust can be arranged. Please let me know if you have anything in the scrap pile. Cheers
  21. Hi. Does any one know where I might be cable to buy a reel of oregon ripping chain. 404 063 5 skip and 3 skip I would like. But woukd buyvnormal ripping chain and grinds some teeth if i had to. Lucas mill charging a fortune fir slabber chains direct and they only supply oregon ones anyway. Thanks
  22. I have a a double ended alaskan running on two 051 power heads. I'd take the lucas slabber any day of the week. Just a gentle push is all it needs.
  23. Here's some pics. Sorry didn't take too many. Frame erected minus wind braces, milling the roof, pile of roof timbers and started to pitch roof before heavens open.
  24. Got the slabber working great now. 4.8m x 1.1m ish taking 5 or 6 min per cut and leaving great finish. I had to shim out the bar one side with some pieces of bean can lid as it was ever so slightly pitched down which was causing a washboard effect and the end of the cut pulling down 5mm deeper than the start. I think I am going to make a second oiler though for the other end of the bar as think it is slightly under oiled on the big cuts.
