  1. I got stung in the back of the neck on friday and its still annoying me now on sunday night! glad it was only 1 sting and not 20!!! it was just a solitary wasp buzzing around my ear and when i waved it away it went for me. They seem to be real aggressive at the moment.
  2. Your digging a bigger hole Rob shhh:001_rolleyes: Did you know most tree surgery falls/accidents are while doing small trees? Never tell anyone its ok to freeclimb anything at work, If its on your own time after work or weekends then do whatever you want but while at work stay tied in:sneaky2:
  3. Helping Big J mill some Elm. Well Harry helping and me taking pictures I did help later honest:001_rolleyes:
  4. Little wander close to Aviemore today:001_smile:
  5. really cool video, i like that backwards stuff:thumbup1:
  6. I got into tree surgery from a rock climbing background so trusting the gear was the easy bit. Trusting the trees was a different story but the more i did the more confidence i gained. BUT (and thats a big but) Never get to confident, always have that thought in the back of your mind of what could go wrong and be prepared for it. In 20 odd years i have come out of 2 trees just from fear (may have just been a bad day or lost confidence because of being completely knackered) but slept on it and the next day got straight back up and got on with it. Fear is healthy, you just need to control it. Keep at it and you will be fine:thumbup1:
  7. If the pole falls over because the tree is holding it up then the fault lies with the phone line provider imo. If you snap the line while working on the tree then thats your fault and will have to pay. I would just do the job, like huck says the pole looks fine.
  8. hmm i dont think there was any need for the second gob in the middle and i would just have felled as normal, with a sink cut to form the hinge first then come back almost all the way, then finish with a small back cut. Doesnt really matter anyway cos its down and it worked:thumbup1:
  9. maybe it got mixed up with other boards after being processed cos i am 100% sure its oak, i can even smell it
  10. I hear you there:thumbup1: I get my stuff from Clark Forest although i may click on Jonesy yet. Still going for a look on thursday evening but probably wont buy anything unless i get the shiny thing eyes on, then i will regret it
  11. I tried to do italian classes before i went to stay in Rome but it didnt help at all because i couldnt concentrate on it. Only thing that worked for me was being immersed in the language and having everyone speak only italian to me (including the wife). Now i am back in Scotland me and the good lady still speak only italian in the house so i dont lose it.
  12. i am willing to put a tenner on it being oak and your friend needs to get glasses or a tree ident book:001_tt2: chopping board for a conger eel?
  13. Instead of moving the block around, why dont you use a second smaller pully to redirect for the smaller stuff. If you dont have a second pully you can use a steel crab or at worst a branch fork old school style.
  14. haha yea the money suckers will be your biggest problem:lol: As for how much 30 and 31 cost, i couldnt say cos its been so long since i did mine that for sure the price is more. Someone else will need to jump in for that one. Good luck:thumbup1:
  15. you will need tickets for sure but most of all experience and a will to sweat a lot works, problem being its difficult to get the experience so you will need to really want this as your future and have a lot of motivation. If your young then go for it but be prepared for a rocky ride. If your getting on a bit then physical fitness may play a bigger part in it and you may struggle to get your body in the right shape and you could be passed it by the time you get your feet in the door. There is lots to think about but first things first, get your qualifications and dont cut your leg off
  16. nice one mate handy getting a customer like that.
  17. I posted this video last week... looks like they dont like branch collars or safety lines cool bit of kit though:thumbup1:
  18. Ah the first of many... Thats until you get a second backup (which i have also had stuck at the same time:blushing:)
  19. Think he was meaning for the chipper and sawing the lumpy bits off. But if you did get your chinstrap caught in brash you wer feeding into the chipper then you aint feeding it right imo. Get you common sense out and use it, while your at it tie a rock round the h & s guys foot ant throw him in the sea:sneaky2:
  20. the only thing that worries me about the smoke is if i get handed a lighter thats got the flame turned up too high! i hate losing eyebrows:001_tt2:
  21. I think you meant to say "welcome to hell mate" But really the fact that this question is being asked is bordering on the ridiculous, its another nail in the coffin for common sense. Soon common sense will just be something you read about in a museum! When i get out of the tree i have a drink and then a smoke and if there is anything left to do then i get stuck in without even thinking of what helmet or trousers i have on because i have a helmet and class c's on so what the hell is the problem?
  22. Ummm ok maybe i should have known that In my defence I did comment after a hard day on the tools though so i wasnt looking through fresh eyes, plus i think i may have had a beer or 2 and aliens abducted me that day too sheesh you wouldnt believe the list of brain slowing things that happened to me:001_rolleyes:
  23. is it? I have no idea who it is:blushing:
  24. the names of your pics kinda give it away mate
