  1. must admit i do wear them more as a habit from my utility days than anything else i guess, plus they are way better with the thorns than any of your sticky gloves. I must say they are way overpriced and i should stop buying them i guess.
  2. Deliver each (exaggerated but just) quote by hand, take a shotgun with you and get them to sign the acceptance while chewing on the end of the barrel:001_rolleyes:
  3. thats why i use a prussic on my flipline... simples
  4. little money for lots of work and dangerous work at that.... i want my danger money you tight public you! stop complaining we are too expensive cos we aint! we are too cheap is the truth.
  5. probably because we are sick of the sight of them! does a week go by when your not getting slapped in the face by the whippy little dead twigs or trying to shove the big bent branches in the chipper and having to pull them out again because you misjudged the size of the bend, or the blockage in the spout because you were trying to get as much of it through as you could but the sticky heavy greenery just clogged up. Or that huge hedge that you have to climb to get the top and its so thick with twigs that your getting them up your nose and in your ears and eyes at every turn. What about all those pigeons that like to nest in them so much and seem to have active nests all year round so you have to keep putting it off until one day the damned pigeon flys off and then it starts raining heavy on the day you finally get to do it, gotta love how much water they can hold on the greenery.... blah blah etc etc I love em by the way
  6. Brrrr bit chilly that no? great pics but theres a lunge missing in there...
  7. wind turbines are way higher than any trees around so they wont affect them. Must be a wind up
  8. I know a guy calls himself the "tree fella" closeish... I was called the hippy tree rat but i am no longer of the hippy look so just tree rat seems to fit now, i have been known by other names as well but scottish west coast humour is a bit colourful and i would probably get my botty slapped if i said any here:lol: Oh yea arborist and tree surgeon are the same. Its only when you start doing tree surveys etc you can call yourself an arboriculturalist (i think:blushing:)
  9. paperwork????
  10. I am NOT scared of heights! i am however scared of falling and hitting the ground:001_tt2:
  11. In Rome we used to just stack everything roadside and a lorry with a 20 cube container and a grab (the kind you get in scrap yards) would come in and take it all away for about 300 euros a load. Complete waste of time and cash imo, a chipper and a firewood guy is the best way i found. Your groundies chip it all as it comes down and the wood gets stacked for the firewood guy to collect. I dont think your idea will work here because everyone has chippers but if you are the firewood guy then your in if you can make it pay.
  12. Cant say i am innocent and havent done it in the past but the older i get the less risks i tend to take, becoming a bit of a wuss myself I just dont think its a good idea to tell anyone starting out that its ok to freeclimb, especially in a working environment and even more so if you are working for someone else. The HSE will be down on you like a ton of bricks
  13. very true but do you want to take the chance of 1 little slip that leads to a broken leg or arm and your insurance not paying out cos you were not tied in? I can understand perfectly the logic in the statement but if you were to have a slip then you aint covered matey and you get poor till your leg works again.
  14. I got stung in the back of the neck on friday and its still annoying me now on sunday night! glad it was only 1 sting and not 20!!! it was just a solitary wasp buzzing around my ear and when i waved it away it went for me. They seem to be real aggressive at the moment.
  15. Your digging a bigger hole Rob shhh:001_rolleyes: Did you know most tree surgery falls/accidents are while doing small trees? Never tell anyone its ok to freeclimb anything at work, If its on your own time after work or weekends then do whatever you want but while at work stay tied in:sneaky2:
  16. Helping Big J mill some Elm. Well Harry helping and me taking pictures I did help later honest:001_rolleyes:
  17. Little wander close to Aviemore today:001_smile:
  18. really cool video, i like that backwards stuff:thumbup1:
  19. I got into tree surgery from a rock climbing background so trusting the gear was the easy bit. Trusting the trees was a different story but the more i did the more confidence i gained. BUT (and thats a big but) Never get to confident, always have that thought in the back of your mind of what could go wrong and be prepared for it. In 20 odd years i have come out of 2 trees just from fear (may have just been a bad day or lost confidence because of being completely knackered) but slept on it and the next day got straight back up and got on with it. Fear is healthy, you just need to control it. Keep at it and you will be fine:thumbup1:
  20. If the pole falls over because the tree is holding it up then the fault lies with the phone line provider imo. If you snap the line while working on the tree then thats your fault and will have to pay. I would just do the job, like huck says the pole looks fine.
  21. hmm i dont think there was any need for the second gob in the middle and i would just have felled as normal, with a sink cut to form the hinge first then come back almost all the way, then finish with a small back cut. Doesnt really matter anyway cos its down and it worked:thumbup1:
  22. maybe it got mixed up with other boards after being processed cos i am 100% sure its oak, i can even smell it
  23. I hear you there:thumbup1: I get my stuff from Clark Forest although i may click on Jonesy yet. Still going for a look on thursday evening but probably wont buy anything unless i get the shiny thing eyes on, then i will regret it
  24. I tried to do italian classes before i went to stay in Rome but it didnt help at all because i couldnt concentrate on it. Only thing that worked for me was being immersed in the language and having everyone speak only italian to me (including the wife). Now i am back in Scotland me and the good lady still speak only italian in the house so i dont lose it.
