  1. Friend of mine is a sheep farmer. On his wedding day, he went out to check some sheep, got married in church, went to do some feeding, got to the reception and partied! Came back to the landrover to find one of the little back windows is pushed in, there's a fair bit of blood around. Then found his shearing handpiece covered in blood, one of his collies covered in blood and a finger on the floor.... Nothing missing. Police got involved but strangely nobody went to first aid that day with missing digits.
  2. Sycamore seems to be happy in most the same circumstances and will coppice with much the same or faster re growth. Birch will grow very fast and makes good firewood. Does not always coppice well, but will probably self seed to such an extend as to not needing to plant replacements. Robinia coppices well, and is quite multi-usefull (animal fodder, timber, firewood, exceptional honey) and produces the hottest burning timber you can grow in the uk. My advice would be to plant a mix of species, monocultures are just plain stupid IMO.
  3. Only to find you're dead so there's no one to feed you....?
  4. Or maybe, the same situation can be perceived by different people to be unsafe and risky as well as safe and fine? I know when I went out playing with moto x bikes my mum's perception of what was dangerous did not even come close to actually getting on the bike:biggrin:
  5. I'm a pedant.... There's inconsistency throughout the website about who you are (I/we). I think you should make up your mind whether you're selling yourself as an individual or a company. On the "events" page, I reckon it should say "sculptures" rather than "....demonstrating chainsaw art and exhibiting our wooden sculpture" unless you just bring one item to any event? On the "contact us" page, "Please contact me/us with any questions about my tree carving.... ? and "able to travel nationwide for no extra charge." should be "at no extra..." I believe. On the "about" page, first paragraph it says "natures" where it should be "nature's" ? (English is not my first language so I may well be wrong on any of those...) The font size varies a bit throughout the site, each page seems to be different? I found "Latest news" difficult to read. Like I said, I am a pedant:blushing: Overall a really good site though, the look and feel of it are good.
  6. Nonsense! Are you saying that all country lanes need either closing off or all the curves and corners taken out so one can drive 60? Seems that getting speed bumps right is quite difficult. There's one near me that's in a 40, and when crossed at 42 you hardly know its there, at 30 or 50 it'll shake your spine out. (Took quite a bit of testing) Perhaps write a few cross letters to your local council, with pics of the damage, and get some other locals to do so as well.
  7. Was it stored with fuel in it? When you got it out again, did you put fresh fuel in it?
  8. One thing I reckon would be a major advantage is to have 25l cans available like they are in more civilised countries (read, the whole of Western Europe). I'm not sure why they're not?
  9. Not really tbh. My parents live in the Netherlands so their supplier would not be who you're after I reckon. Try these guys maybe? http://www.joostenbl.co.uk/Agricultural-Products(2529969).htm
  10. http://bit.ly/T3fOL3 £17 delivered
  11. A "maxflow" filter perhaps?
  12. It does not catch the wind as much as a tarp does as the wind can go through it to some extend. Father dear has a few big stacks of straw that have just a few lengths of baler twine with 5l cans of water dangling from them. The firewood is on pallets with wire cages on, stacked two high. They have a strip of that stuff over the top and down a foot or so. It's tied once across every pallet so you can untie what you take away without having to re-tie the remainder.
  13. Used to have an "otter box defender" but have a "lifeproof" now. Supposedly fully waterproof, (my wife is training to swim Windermere lenghtwise and uses one) and shockproof to 2m falls. I found the otterbox let in dust and all the other things that live in my cs trouser pockets. The lifeproof is fully dust proof. It also feels much nicer to hold, no silicone stickiness etc. the difference is like the difference between an "aldi special" and a proper saw. Less than £20 delivered off the bay. (Though that's for iPhone 4S, have not seem cases for 5 yet)
  14. About £1/m2.
  15. Sorry for the delay in replying, asked the old man but he's not that hot on replying to texts... It's about £1/m2. It has a few unexpected benefits like not needing to tie it down anywhere near as much as a tarp as the wind does not lift it much. I just saw on their website they have a dedicated product for covering drying Woodchip.
  16. Least I've ever charged was £7.40/m waste left as it fell, most was £16.50/m, alas with waste left. That did have a few complicating factors beside it being a very awkward hedge. Here's more: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=33788
  17. Hi, and welcome to the forum. May I suggest you choose a different title for your thread, as just reading the title makes me think you're looking, not offering.
  18. My dad uses this stuff http://www.tencate.com/emea/geosynthetics/products/TenCate-Toptex/default.aspx it's a fleece type stuff that let's air through but not water. Uses if for big stacks of straw, potatoes and wood. Potatoes and wood have quite similar storage needs, well vented but not getting wet and no condensation. It's proving to work really well.
  19. I've had a 20" on mine. Had a row of 10 or so ash to fell, when working away from home hedgelaying. They ranged from 30" to about 45" and I only had the 550, a 346xpg and an ms 210. I'm not really a tree surgeon, hedgelaying is my thing so I did not see much sense in buying a bigger saw for the one job. It actually coped quite well I thought, but then the trees were not very sound in the centre so quite soft. I've not used it since though...
  20. The sticks to stick between sawn planks when milling so air can get to it.
  21. I've read this a few times now. I have one of the ones from before it was "out" so an early one and have not had much trouble with it. It refused to start when hot just the once so I got the 346 out instead for a tankfull, after that it (the 550) started again fine?. This hotter plug, what model/number is it? I've tried to find some info on plugs but I did not get far. Cheers, Daniel
  22. I used to be a cab driver and the company I worked for had a rather strange fleet policy. We had 5 Mercedes S500's, all top spec down to 190E's in tatters, no consistency. Most vehicles would be kept until they were gone completely, then replaced with new. I got sent out with a Vito minibus one night and before I was a mile from the yard I turned back as the clutch was slipping badly. One of the managers came out with me and decided it was fine, even though it was slipping quite badly. He told me it was my footwork that was the issue. I managed to do one trip with a single (fortunately skinny) customer, blowing smoke as we went, when on my way back to the pickup point it get the better of me: I put the handbrake on, put it in 4th, floored the accelerator and dumped the clutch. I took the handbrake off and it managed to drive maybe 20 yards forward up a little hill before it rolled backwards again. Kept the right foot firmly planted until I was sure there was not a single fibre of friction stuff left unvaporised. Last week I got rather cross with one off my daughters ( not a machine I know, but a 5 year old can be a lot like a Ryobi sometimes, never doing what you ask of it). I managed to stay calm whilst talking to her, then tried to vent my anger by kicking an inanimate object. I now have two broken toes and both the nails from those toes were ripped right off...
  23. "Chip Cherub"
  24. Perhaps try searching for a Vespa moped as opposed to a Vesper, you'll find a few more that way.
