This is brilliant, I get this replacing the points, however I am also looking for something that might replace the old shelac wound coil....I'm restoring a Danarm Mk 3 (Villiers 350cc) 2-man saw. Is it as simple as getting one of the smaller induction coils from a saw/scooter/whatever and making a rig to keep it close to the magneto? Bob

I made a wooden one with some lengths of 50mm sq wood and some coach bolts / wing-nut etc..I had kicking around. Dead handy as long as the log isn't over heavy. Then the wife bought me a Stihl Metal sawhorse ( 000 0881 4607 Metal Saw Horse)..the chain is handy for securing multiple sticks or for larger lumps. Difficult to choose, although the Stihl gets more use due to having lots of heavier lumps around around currently. Bob

Agreed, Stove only...split when green with no real problems. Had some seasoned for 2 years and it was like iron. Gave a nice pleasant aroma when I left a few smaller bits near to the stove.

I use another pallet with 1000 gauge membrane stapled to it. Seems to keep most of the weather off. Plus you stack 2 or 3 high using a plain pallet on top of each bag and then have the covered pallet on the top. Bob

Hi, Does anyone produce and sell wood pellets / briquettes in smaller bags. I know a place that sells by the builders bag, but I find them too diffficult to manage and move around. I can move 15/25kg bags and stack and store easy. I'm looking for 20 up to 50 if the price is right. I have the means to collect and move. Thanks Bob Zero -7854146516

One of the wife's relatives, a rag-n-bone man. Was known on occassion to burn roof joists from bombed houses in a similar style. Splayed out across the floor of the room feeding a small grate. Bob

Anyone have any ideas? I've calculated the volumes of a load of sticks and was wondering how I could estimate their weight. per stick or as a load. I've found a site that says Ash goes 650kgs per metre cube (seasoned) I was looking at a load of semi-seasoned sweet chestnut. Bob

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I knew the answer but as I had loads of 230 consumables that would be no good on a 241,261. Thanks for the husky advice, without wanting to incite war. Like my stihl and have good dealer and parts access. Bob

Ok my last 230 has lasted 5 years before becoming unreliable. Beyond economic repair according to my local dealer. My previous saw lasted 11years before I killed it by messing with the mixture. My question is....should I be looking at a Pro saw (241) or was I just unlucky with my last one? They get used all weekend during the summer cutting logs. Occasionally during the week if the weather is good. Light use during the winter. I only use Stihl oil and look after the saws...they aren't thrown around, but cleaned and checked before they are put away. Bob

Hi, If I change the bar on my STIHL from an 11tooth sprocket to a 10tooth jobbie how will it affect the saws performance? I always use official parts and the saw has the 10tooth bar listed as an option.... Bob

Got a Fiskars X27 just recently after reading all the reviews on here. For years i've used axes , mauls, grenades... but now there is no going back. Seriously, if you are splitting all day there is no other choice. Any maul or cheaper axe will work but nowhere near as effortlessly. If you want to get an axe from screwfix and then save for a Fiskars. You can still use the axe when you think there might be nails...etc. Fiskars all the way. I'm a convert. Bob
