  3. Beautiful wood to work with but it splits like mad especially when the sun gets on it
  4. Wouldn't worry about the worm you can treat it but it's a lovely piece of timber my worry would be how far the spalting has rotted the wood I would persevere with such a beautifull piece of timber
  5. Poolewood 28/40 Had to have my motor rewound but then i got a complete lathe with chuck and sets of jaws for £102 on ebay
  6. Keep your eyes open for an old poolewood 28/40 they last years and are sturdy pieces of kit I have 2 Keep one for spares

  9. Hi Ian try thinning some sanding sealer and putting that on it helps hold the grain together
  10. OSMO wood protector takes a lot of beating

  16. once the worm is treated i can't see a problem with using the timber
  17. Beautifull timber and not all woodturners are that tight allthough i agree most are what size is the boll
  18. depends what you are intending to do ,very little of the root is good enough for gun stocks.If the trunk is good you need to keep as long a length as possible for planking Think there is more to be made from the main trunk rather than the root ball
