Daisy chain is a pita and yes I used to use a police quick release dog snap . A Prussic would just slow things up . It’s this Neat Freak that I’m trying to evaluate . Let’s face it if something for £100 solves a problem and it lasts a few years then it’s a small price to pay isn’t it? It’s not like any of us are on minimum wage ? [emoji6]

I’m trying to reorganise my harness and have previously used bags like the Notch and other ditty bags to stow the excess tail. Has anyone tried one of these yet ? Seems potentially good but not sure whether the slack will just perpetually get pulled out whist climbing like it does with the bag. Any feedback ?

I think we have to look at the original post and it’s simplistic nature of the questioning before we push our spectacles up our nose and look for oblique case studies . The wording of the original enquiry is such that the assumption of the TPO applies to a property and not the tree. And please I mean this with the greatest of respect as I know this is your field of some considerable expertise. I just think in this instance we need to read the OP’s post and how he is driving his enquiry . No mention made of nuisance etc

Absolutely not . The tree is protected in its entirety from root to shoot tip and any disturbance or wilful damage or unlawful pruning is criminal damage and punishable by law . I’d suggest Googling the caveats and wherewithal’s of TPO’s and it’s impacts on the breacher of said order .

I think administering “a powerful sedative” to someone who is a) on prescription medicine but more importantly b) has admitted to recently having taken class a drugs of unknown type or quantity is more irresponsible than the restraint which from my angle doesn’t look like a fatal position in itself ? Interesting first article though . I’m not sure whether a guilty cop accused of killing a black gang member would be expected to last very many years in prison. Any sentence would mean life alas .

I think keep on with the ground work, that’ll get you ship shape, then look at how your strength is when on rope and you’ll very quickly be able to tell whether you’re comfortable pulling your body weight around for prolonged periods. It’s hard work anyway, keep persevering and you’ll know where you feel more comfortable. On the deck or up aloft. If you’re not comfortable climbing, no biggy. Every good climber needs a good groundie, and they aren’t too easy to find. Either way, the fact that you’re keen and on this forum asking the question speaks volumes about your willingness to get on . Don’t give up easily and keep trying and asking the questions Doug. Check your bar rails are dead even, your saw wants even cutter length and your sharpen needs to be even both sides not more hooked or shallow one side. Easily said but in theory there’s always one of these out of kilter affecting the pull , therefore resulting in wonky cuts

Wow, first it was a post about repositioning of cutting tools, which then descended into cutting remarks about folk who like to reposition their tools into different positions only enjoyed by a certain ‘few’ . You can substitute the duck for a Prussic. It’s a pretty simple method really . I’ve only used it a few times though but it retrieves well and is retrievable mid climb instead of a usual extra cambium saver which you can only retrieve at the end .

To be honest despite the size I really don’t notice any negatives. I would say though that the new one slack tends a bit better due to the wider pulley . I can’t remember if they’ve flared the sheaves more though in the new one. As for the extra hole, never really found a use for it as of yet but I’m sure there are those that do .

Years ago at the ISA conference in Birmingham, an American chap who was helping Arbormasters Rip and Ken, sat with a few of us in the bar and showed us how to splice 16 strand lanyards by taking out all of the core and re-inserting the outer back into the entire length (so basically a 4m piece of rope becomes your 2 m lanyard ) He used a wire coat hanger and it worked very well. I tried to do it some 20 odd years on yesterday but I’ll be buggered if I could get it to work!! Has anyone got any advice/links to videos etc on how to perform this splice please? Also fids that may work for this application instead of the coat hanger !! I’m not confident enough to do just an end splice so this method suits my monkey mitted lack of skill 🥸

Ah I tried the Black Widow for a couple of months . It was ok but I was glad to get the Atrax back. So much slicker and quicker on the zz

Ahhh now I’ve got a shed load of hornbeam for next year split and seasoning Spudders , does it burn easily or need mixing ? I’m guessing from the density it should burn HOT hot Hot

The Cousin Trestec Atrax absolutely hurtles through the Zig Zag. Better than the terrible Drenaline and anything else I’ve used by a country mile. The yellow orange is beautifully visible too. Bit slippy to start with as they coat the rope but once that wears off you’ll love it. Buxtons do a good price on it

Start with both units off . Press and hold the flat button on the left for approx 8 secs on each unit until they flash blue and red . Once they find each other they will flash just blue and will have beeped . When this happens press the same flat l/h button once....wait a few seconds and they’ll make a rising succession of beeps and you’re in . If you lose contact after that ie go out of range then they usually will find each other, although you can press the flat l/h button twice followed by the chunky round volume button once and they should again connect .
