  1. Hmmm, you raise a very valid point there my friend [emoji1303][emoji1319]
  2. I’d advise against storing your rope in with your harness as when climbing it’s nice to ‘try’ to keep your rope in your rope bag as much as you can, to save your groundies using it as a lovely brightly coloured carpet ! Also, your rope invariably gets wetter than your harness so it’s nice to keep them separate . Your harness kit bag will be heavy enough without the rope in it and balancing the kitbag in one hand and your rope bag in the other makes for easier portage down long gardens . Ultimately very personal choices but this seems to work for me . Sport’s Direct sell a rubberised Helly Hansen kit bag for a reasonable price that I’ve had for over a year now which is holding up nicely . Ropes go in one of these excellent recycled bags ....
  3. Nice one Mark. I’m going to first try a different sized file and then if that doesn’t work it’s new bar time. I can’t help but think this Panther bar has warn the inside of the rails which is putting the chain off vertical when cutting full thickness. It’s such a quick bar and chain though it seems a shame to junk it after only a few months .
  4. Thanks for your reply . Are you saying that it’s not viable to get this head tested then do you think ? Kind of encouraging though that the probability of it being the head over the block is high. Many thanks indeed [emoji1303][emoji1307]
  5. Does the Stihl bar fit or does it require the drill ?
  6. Are you on the 1/4 0.50 chain Mick or the 1/4 0.43 ?
  7. Sitting on the fence here, we all make SO many cuts, thousands a week, so many change overs, re-routes, considered risks dozens of times a day sometimes . We deal with structures we are second guessing and even the gravity and predictable force of the pieces we are dealing with can be totally changed by wind etc. You amplify this with things like fatigue, stress, innocent distraction and mild complacency based on experience , then one day statistically something gives. Luckily for most of us we laugh it off as a ‘close one’ and the knees stop knocking as we work on stoically ......but again, statistically the odds are that one of us won’t be so lucky with the laughter. Let’s face it, we all do everything to stack the odds in our favour and limit risks as best we can , but ultimately we are human and no one can be 100% efficient all the time on every level . I’m glad this chap has survived . Perhaps he’s taken one for the team and as usual, after reading dreadful accidents of this nature we all just give that one extra check again . Stay safe gents .....our world is not plain sailing [emoji1303]
  8. Anyone experienced this awesome combo binding in the thicker cuts especially on Willow when a little worn ? (The bar/chain, not the Willow!) Don’t get me wrong, I’m delighted with this setup and cuts impressively quicker than the 1/4 050 option supplied on the later models , but very quickly the chain seems to bind despite diligent sharpening with 3.2mm file with guide and my best most pub glass thickness-est reading specs [emoji165] [emoji851] Dressed the bar, turned the bar etc. Discuss ...?
  9. Or double rope it with some lovely sticky gloves ? # SRTstillscaresme !! [emoji23]?
  10. Hello all. I’ve an old Greenmech 1928 road tow that we abused heavily by continuously overheating it , most likely as a result of the head gasket going. It’s been parked up for a few years but have recently had put on a new turbo head gasket, second (and final) tightening of the stretch bolts and over 6 flushes of the coolant with proprietary coolant flushes. It’s also had a replacement head that was second hand and ‘appeared ‘ in good condition and was straight with a metal rule. Unfortunately the chap effecting the repair advised against getting it pressure tested as he thought it ok. Unfortunately it’s still putting a lot of oil into the water and is after 3 days and a bottle of Steel Seal not revving in a consistent manner and blowing white smoke. Not loads of back pressure in the water though . Any advice ? Do these LE1 blocks suffer from numpties like me desperately abusing them ? They’re cast so I’d have thought pretty tough compared to the other slightly weaker links. Incidentally, when it did chip for the couple of days it chipped flawlessly but then the temp sensor shut it off. We managed 2 more good loads without issue but then today on day 3 it went quickly downhill with the inconsistent revs and smoke . Thick black oil atop the rad . Any rays of hope or the most logical path to follow would be warmly received. Thank you in advance
  11. Post a photo of the buckle would you , we’ll see if anyone can source one independently. They won’t be exclusive to Sim-hard-do surely ?
  12. Is it just the buckle you need or the whole leg strap ? They must be available separately from somewhere. Have you spoken to Craig Johnson on here ? He’s the designer and a pretty decent chap, I’m sure he can point you in the right direction ? If it’s just the buckle/clip, would the one off the matching chest harness fit ?
  13. The Karrimor ones from Sports Direct are nothing short of amazing for under £20. I have a Mountain Equipment Goretex jacket and these trousers keep me just as waterproof!!!!
  14. Yes I’ve been using it for about 2 months now. I was using Cousin Atrax which was lovely and fast through the Zig Zag but I found it just a bit too thin to grip easily . The Black Widow is a very low stretch nice feeling rope but when fresh, still a bit shiny and slippy. Personally I find these small spliced eyes a pain in the arse as the amount of times I’ve had to re-thread the splice through when it’s unintentionally popped out for me has far out-weighed any benefits . It’s massively nicer than Drenaline which was boingy as zebedees botty .
  15. Can we see the finished oiled mantle ? Looks beautiful
  16. Thank you Mr Humphries. A more in -depth answer could not have been hoped for. I have come across Ganoderma resinaceum on occasion but this doesn’t look quite like the specimens I’ve seen previously . I’ll get my customer to e mail me a photograph of a cross section. Many thanks indeed [emoji1319]
  17. What is the consensus of opinion on this being Perenniporia fraxinea? It’s not a fungus I’ve come across much but does look marginally like a young fruiting body. Any other ideas ?
  18. Has anyone got a link to a schematic diagram of the Echo 2511 tes ? The throttle lock switch on top of the handle has lost its spring , despite the spring still being in residence . I’ve jiggled and jaggled but I’m buggered if I can work out how that little wound spring locates fully now I’ve taken it all apart ??‍♂️??‍♂️
  19. I’ve been in and out of Pfanners over the years but sadly my last pair were the ‘vents’ and I was very disappointed with the quality of the outer. It pulled and puckered very early on and the whole cut of the trouser went pretty mis-shapen and baggy prematurely. I have been in a pair of Breathflex Pro since Feb and would say that they’re the best trouser (possibly) that I’ve owned (over 20+ pairs ) The normal Breathflex I thought were terrible but these Pros are brilliant . A slim cut though if you’re a big lad and if you wear braces there’s an issue with the cord brace attachments wearing prematurely but there’s always the button option . They truly are a well thought out design made with some quality materials .
  20. We still got sum big ‘uns this side of the water .....check out the burrs on this cheeky one at a private garden on a job in Warwickshire !!
  21. Hello all, has anyone got any recommendations for a good consultant that covers the Midlands , namely Warwickshire? I used to use Jerry Dicker who was excellent but he has now retired . I’ve had mixed experience with Wharton’s so keen to try someone else. Your suggestions from experience would be greatly appreciated. Cheers chaps and lasses
  22. Well I’ve taken your advice and spliced some ArbPro rings onto some 16mm trex. Thus far though I’ve found them a pain in the arse mostly as my 16mm double braid has a stainless thimble which necessitates setting up everything in reverse with the tail of the rope . Personally I’m not seeing much gain thus far but it’s early days, and perhaps my next rings I’ll buy bigger and lose the thimble . All seems a bit faffy compared to the ease of mid line block attachment to be honest
  23. Christ almighty that’s a high tip !! [emoji23] If you get any load bridging your front wheels will be in the air !! Makes for an easy oil change mind . Nice looking truck [emoji7]
