  1. oops, sorry no it doesnt. Mixed it up in my head with DOuglas Fir for some reason. I am splitting both at the moment! The Pine is making great kindling!
  2. Takes plenty of drying though!
  3. You can buy fuel filters that are compatible with bio diesel, not sure what the differences are but i fitted one to my old shogun and it ran ok with well refined bio/derv mix. i used to do a 50/50 ish mix. My wife would run her Audi A2 on it pure, it was ok initially but eventually clogged up the filter and caused starting issues.
  4. superb... I personally love the braces, and the special pocket in my ballistic pants for my knife.
  5. A tonne bag is 3/4m3? I suppose it all depends on how much you could get for it seasoned. If you can double your money on each tonne just for leaving it in your yard for 4 months then it makes all your hard work more worth while. But if your only going to get £50 for seasoned then the quick turn around makes more sense... I am going to be aiming to sell 4 or 5 cubes a week, if i can do more great. So i am hoping for £400 - £500 a week.
  6. One of my clients, a single mum, had a small tree in her garden that she wanted removed. I offered to take it down for her and biscuit it for her but she said no thanks. So she went to B&Q and bought a chainsaw plus a 'starter kit', her elderly neighbour ended up finishing the job for her. I admire her courage and her sense to walk away and ask for help, but i do think that firms like B&Q need to take a bit of responsibility.
  7. Just noticed that i have been doing this again in the last week! Its taken 4 months of cross cutting and log making keep asking my wife if she wants to feel my guns.... ill stop now.
  8. They are a good buy new then! basically Zero depreciation!
  9. I just cant fathom some people, why would you pay the same price for a second hand one as for a new one?! New ones have warranties?
  10. So the chipper, splitter, trailer, etc do not like air/wind?
  11. Could you install or make windows / holes with wire mesh in the barn to allow wind in and keep out the locals?
  12. 2.4 none turdbo will be gutless with weight in... mine is painfull when i have two cubes piled high and towing a cube in a trailer.
  13. Lets get this straight, he wants 50% of the sale value of the logs.... So it would be like me paying £50 for a cubic meter of arb waste and turning it into logs and selling it for £100. But out of my £50 id have wear and tear of my saw, tractor/splitter, fuel for said splitter and saw not to mention the time it takes you to split it and store it oh and buy vented log bags at £4.50 each. So out of the £50 maybe only £35 is actual profit.
  14. £50 a ton does not sound like a bargain?
  15. If i were you and just starting to nurture a working relationship i would simply just talk to him about it.
  16. This last one is how the french seem to do it, well they do near our holiday home. It is one price for the standard size, think its 24 or 28inch, we are then charged an additional fee to have the logs cut from 24inch to 12inch. All very civilised and minimal handling.
  17. My 83 IH/case 885xl 4x4 was £3500 but it had/has a fair bit of rust in the cab. Mechanically really good though. Does everyone post tractor threads, i have only been a member for a few months and im kinda sick of them already lol
  18. Small Business Accounting Software for Mac & Windows Online system i have been using it for 3 businesses for the last few years, i really rate it.
  19. It is the end of January after the most expensive time of year for people and one week before payday. Chin up, they will all be freezing waiting till they have money to buy logs!
  20. This is my understanding of it.. A back boiler stove set up needs to be vented, if it is not vented then i think the system can be compared to an unexploded bomb. If your heating system gets too hot and starts boiling then where is the steam / pressure going to go? It has to be able to vent otherwise the tank or somthing related to it will go bang. This is why you can not hook into a modern heating system which needs to be a closed pressurised system, if the system was fitted with a stove and vent and it all got too hot and vented the pressure then the water would not be able to circulate through the system and it would go into melt down. Admitidly as Peter has proven its all what ifs and possibles... To run a stove with normal heating system then you need a heat exchanger cylinder (looks like a megaflo except with loads of ins and outs!), which allows for multiple inputs ie stove, solar & ground source heating. My dads had one fitted and it works superbly. Not cheap mind, but it is the only safe and recognised way to do what your asking. Basically there are coils in the exchanger that heat the water in a closed pressurised system. I am looking at hooking my stove up to my underfloor heating, just a bit worried that it will make the house too hot as i only need it on for an hour a day and its roasting!
  21. Made a decision on the saw, have decided to remove the JAP engine and fit the 11hp Honda GX340 motor I have. The main reason i am bottling it with the JAP is because of how hard it is to start, using my goped is simply not practical, also the amount of time and effort i am going to have to throw at it to bring it up to a useable standard. I need it working for me now! The only issue i will have is with the drive pulley, it will need sleeving from 1.5inch to 1inch to match the GX. But other than that it would be a mater of drilling 4 holes in the base plate and cutting off and replacing the tensioner bolts so that i can adjust the belt tension to suit which needs doing anyway. I will take the GX round to the Doc tomorrow and seek his help with the pulley. However, i will take a video of the JAP running and post it here before i remove it as it is a sight to behold!
  22. I was going to suggest riko too, i think their 14tonn two speed splitter looks the nuts for the price. website says £1450 but thats probably for the hydraulic tractor mounted version. For a 16 ton horizontal splitter for up to 1mt logs a 9hp Subaru engine with a solid axle and towing eye Riko quoted me £2500 + Vat. If you tell them your budget and requirements they will build you the splitter to most suit you. I was very impressed with their help, advice and time spent with me and my enquiries.
