  1. Looks good, I agree with the facia board comment. I am going to be building something similar for retail except with green timber boards machined on my scary saw bench from what ever is on the pile at the time. Aiming for a more rustic looking finish with bark on.
  2. We take it in turns on the mac, she goes on Mumsnet - Product reviews, parenting tips and advice for parents and i visit here and Classic Honda's :: 1stgencivic.org 1stgencivic.com. If there is bugger all on tv she reads and i read about tree/logging stuff!
  3. Think we have the same splitter dangerous brian, mine has been faultless for a year. All i have done to mine is extend the splitting table by 40cm each side.

  5. It all boils down to pound notes Alex, if you let us know your budget then you will get more suitable advice. Also if you could tell us what volumes and type of timber will you be processing. Cheers Tom
  6. It is similar to Ambulance chasing isnt it, but i know that builders over here regularly check planning applications and send letters to all of the properties addresses touting for work as a matter of course. This business is doing the same thing, as they are carrying out this practice then they must be obtaining some business from it or they wouldnt waste the stamp. Can you start doing it to them? ;-)
  7. my 94 2.4 double cab is great, very reliable, great off road when you have a load in the back but quite underpowered.
  8. Honestly everyone who has looked at it and seen it running has said something along those lines. I think the log holder / feed is going to be the only way to go safety wise. But i still wont be using it with a hangover!
  9. Saw Bench is now up and running, i have made up new engine mounts and managed to obtain a 6inch twin pully from a guy on ebay who is representing his wifes familys business in Thaliand. The pulley came in 10 days direct from Thailand and cost £55. I have also managed to include the large electric motor that is used to start the Petter, it is a dam sight easier to start this way than with the starting handle! So next job is to build a sliding log feed / holder so that my handywandys are well clear from the cutting blade. Plan is to use scaffold bars/feet so that the holder it is height adjustable. Anyone know of any sliding bearings type things? I figure i need the holder to move 12inch at most. The Petter engine is very powerful, probably a bit too powerful, when cutting a 6inch branch of oak long ways down its centre the engine pitch does not change. Its still at tickover. Tool Time Tim would be proud. lol [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1cM73ZMpbQ]YouTube - ‪LINER Saw Bench with a Petter Diesel Engine‬‏[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrKA9eZ2b5k]YouTube - ‪LINER Saw Bench with a Petter Diesel Engine Cutting‬‏[/ame]
  10. Ahh ok sorry.
  11. I have found that if you cut your discs of tough wood a bit thiner than normal (4-5inch) then a 12tonne splitter can cope with anything. Its not ideal but means you can processes most arb waste.
  12. Not the fact that shooting someone is a touch harsh?
  13. I had a spalted Beech trunk milled into inch planks, left it outside with gaps under cover for a year and it still warped quite a lot. It was not suitable for cutting in half again to use for flooring. So i made a superb book case and small kitchen work surface out of it. Still have some planks that i actually pulled out today, plan is to make a log store next to my fire place. The spalted beech when milled looks stunning. But does also burn very well!
  14. Sorry if i my reply came over wrong it wasnt meant to be taken that way, i thought you were pulling my chain. I must say classics at the TT are getting rare, Manx GP week in sept has more classics mainly because its twinned with the classic southern race meeting. I am making one mag out of three, hopefully ill get one that works! I will then fit it to the other Liner saw bench i have which has better body work. Treequip thanks for your input, as i said my reply was meant to be jokey. Forums are difficult cause you can see someone laughing as they type.
  15. Its not a vintage motor bike engine, its a vintage stationary engine, yes JAP made very fancy motor bike engines but this is certainly not one of them. As well as high performance bike engines they also made stationary engines, this is one of those, they seem to fetch about £70 at most for a good runner on ebay. Mine is not a good runner as you can hear in the video! The timing is still well out and the magneto does not provide a spark, i have it wired up as a dead loss system just using the original points to provide the bang. But somewhere in the conversion i have lost the timing. arse. Yes I agree the engine is not quiet, but it has not exhaust at all, more of a loudner! So Mr Sarcastic i very much doubt one of the said bikers is going to want to install this motor which for the record weighs about 60kg and puts out all of 5hp into one of their high performance road bikes.
  16. As i am on the Isle of Man the shipping costs will rule out selling the JAP on i think.
  17. LOL yes it is a bit chitty chitty bang bang isnt it! I have managed to buy a twin cylinder Petter diesel engine with the correct rotation, its been sat for years and years but with clean fuel she fired right up yesterday second rotation! So that is going on in stead of the JAP mainly because the JAP is so god dam hard to start and its still not running as it should. But also the Petter is going to be cheaper to run. The JAP has been removed and i am replacing the tensioner bolts etc this week so Pulley permitting i should be running shortly. Thanks for the tip re the pulley, ill contact them re a 1.5inch triple for the petter.
  18. LOL exactly what i was going to reply... after groaning out loud to myself..not another thread on this.
  19. I have found Macrocarpa to be a good burner, smells great too. Although i have split so much of it recently i am starting to not be able to smell it.
  20. Vermont Castings Intrepid II, 27000 BTU's which is 8KW i think. Multi-fuel, top loading with hot plate & double front doors. Lasted 7 years before needing any internal attention. I have now replaced the fire stones & smoke hood, it was a right pain to dismantle. I really wish someone had told me to take the whole stove apart and copper slip all bolts/nuts before installing! We burn around a 1/4 Cube every week, I burn anything!
  21. We are giving the old JAP one last chance... took a video of her in action today. The timing is still not right, black smoke is telling us that the spark it happening too late. So the Mag has been removed again for further fettling. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyLC4I2XDrM]YouTube - 00215[/ame]
  22. Are we going to be talking about HUGE pink wedding dresses, with moving butterflys and lights next? lol
  23. Pretty sure that here on the Isle of Man anything over 5 inch requires permission unless the tree is dead. Might be different for you guys though.
  24. Off topic i know and im sorry but i am loving your furniture! just been showing my wife lol Your offering 10% off for milling equipment to members, any discounts on your furniture for trade purchases? and would you want someone retailing your products to their clients?
  25. alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill Someone posted a link to this site on another thread
