  1. Its normally 3 times the profit but in these times i think you need to start thinking a years profit. However as has been mentioned you have not stated what raw material supply, machinery, premises or delivery vehicle is included. If its just the 70-80 client database and your telephone number you are selling then you are going to have to be lucky to get someone to pay £10k for that. IMHO of course.
  2. They have no fossil fuels left so they have no option but go Nuclear.
  3. Ahhh didnt realise this, as usual everything i have read in the mail and Sun have been doom and gloom. perhaps i should read a more hi-brow paper!
  4. Japanese officials warned of two possible radiation leaks today as authorities battled to contain rising pressure at a plant crippled by yesterday massive earthquake. Thousands of people within a six-mile radius of the Fukushima facility were evacuated as radiation rose to 1,000 times the safe level and pressure grew, fueling fears of an explosion. With growing tension at the plant 150 miles north of Tokyo, a second state of emergency was declared as pressure rose in two reactors at the facility. Earlier officials had proposed releasing radioactive vapour into the atmosphere in a bid to prevent an explosion after its cooling system failed Read more: Japan earthquake and tsunami: State of emergency after nuclear power plant crippled | Mail Online
  5. My dad got a very similar one for his christmas pressy, its going back down to france with him for wine making duties. Would be perfect for small scale cider production if combined with a small garden chipper ;-)
  6. Yeah its proper harsh, the nuclear threat had me concerned for us and europe but it does seem that they have things under control. Anyone who doesnt know what a threat this sort of thing is needs to read up on the Sellafield or Chernobyl disasters.. dam scary when you read the actual events and repercussions. "we put a hose pipe into the core and hope it worked, i looked into the core"... Very brave Sellafield worker. I remember not eating local lamb for years, and went to see my grandparents in Majorca for 3 weeks.. anyone else?
  7. Just had to have an impromptu hair cut this afternoon as i was having a brash fire this morning and i got a bit to close. My eyebrows are now thinned and bushy and what hair thats not been lost down the plug hole frazzled in quite spectacular style. My eyelashes were also kinda stuck together.... Great fun for a fri morning though!
  8. Exactly my point, isn't this this why selling by count hard for new clients to know what they are getting?
  9. hi, very interested in this method of selling could you tell me how many m3 100 logs equates to? .25m3?
  10. What should your rough count actually be and what does it roughly end up as?
  11. I suppose it is down to variations in log width / diameter isnt it, a client will know (well possibly) how big 1m3 is but how is a new client supposed to know what they are getting when ordering 100 logs? Out of interest do you count every log into a bag or fill a pickup and when you reach a clients count 100 logs off the back into a barrow then stack/dump for them?
  12. From what i have read if you are just processing cord wood of upto 15" thats all straight then a processor is the way forward. The machines themselves seem to really hold their value, it seems they only loose 2k in value over 2 -3 years! I really cant see how you could go wrong... No good for arb waste though
  13. I am finding that my £3500 4x4 tractor is just being used as a stationary engine thats costing me £2.80 an hour to run! Mostly the tractor is surrounded by log biscuits so that when i could do with using it i cant without exerting much wasted effort.
  14. I have around the same flow rate 28lpm from my IH885 and my harrows r us jobbie is superb. But the tractor revs have to be 1600rpm, if i have them at 1200 then there is a drastic decrease in splitter performance and speed so i can understand your issues with lower flow rates. IMHO 28lpm will be fine. In case anyone is interested at 1600 rpm i am chewing through 3 quarters of a gallon per hour. So i will be building a hydraulic pack powered by my petter ph2 motor.
  15. Effort doesnt change for the wood/logs you prepare so in theory your prices shouldnt too. In practice a lot of my clients seem to want Hardwood, but i dont think they know the difference! So a certain amount of education is required. I ask what they are using to burn the logs and if they have a wood burning/ multifuel stove then i suggest a mixture of hard woods and softwoods. Also if they are new to the 'open fire business' then softwoods may be easier for them to get a good roaring fire. Some of my clients also want Ash as they have read its the best and want to burn the best and possibly impress their fiends! Anyway to answer your question i currently charge £10 less for softwood. £85 for Hard, £75 for soft, + £10 delivery if over 5 miles from my yard. Prices will be going up by £10 next season to cover increased overheads.
  16. Chill dude we are all in the same boat as you justifying prices to people who need to reign in their expectations so I dont think thats what he meant. £85 per cube is what i am currently charging and i am also stacking my logs or kinda dumping (not number 2 dumping btw!) in people wood stores. My prices next season will be increasing though.
  17. This is how i am going to be wokring this season. I am using a MS660 with a 25 inch bar for most processing work, i can cut way more discs with it in one tank of fuel than i can with my 390 with a 20inch. The 660 is just effortless.. well it still has me sweating but you know what i mean.
  18. ditto
  19. 70p here on the iom, inc vat buying in small volumes. costs me £30 for two Jerry cans. Just got a 1000 litre tank so hopefully i can get the price down a bit!!
  20. windfall

    Fence job

Reminded me of Happy Gilmore, where he shoots Jaws in the head with the nail gun. Now back to my happy place....
  21. I have a MS660 and apart from the fuel & oil filler caps its an utterly amazing saw, the amount of timber it will ring in a tank of fuel is staggering.
  22. Pretty sure i have read that Sycamore is the preferred wood as it is sterile when split? Why that is or if its even correct i am not really sure! I am sure Beech, Sycamore or Elm would make superb butchers/chopping blocks.
  23. Out of interest do you know what the flow rate is on my 1983 International Harvester 885XL 4x4 ? It would be nice to know what my options are as i will be be looking at your products in a few months Andrew. Both you and Riko have great products.
  24. I have been watching Hiabs on ebay for the last two months, there are loads of them of various sizes and conditions. The smaller ones seem to command stronger prices as people like you and i want to put them on smaller vehicles or trailers.
  25. dont hold back lol
