  1. oh god dont start that debate again! lol
  2. The tyre splitting 'system' is superb isnt it! i have an 18 inch 235 tyre attached to a large piece of trunk. As the axe hits the tyre it is helped back in the air by the tyre. Ill give it a go for kindling...
  3. I just use my splitter... I use tips of pine trees, probably 4 - 5 inch wide, i can hold it in my hand and make 3 or 4 cuts with the splitter one way then 3 or 4 the other way. Not sure how well a small multi blade would work for me, interested to know if it would work.
  4. how much do you want for that, and can you stick it on a pallet?
  5. Just done a wordpress site too with the help of a mate who is a web designer though. But its easy to use and make changes too.
  6. Yeah i didnt think there was much in it.
  7. i second that, take forever to dry then just smother your fire with ash.
  8. Do you have any firm prices or are you just guessing?
  9. yeah id be keen to read that :-)
  10. lol not really. Depending on cost it may be worth me taking a LWB transit worth from you.
  11. Yanmar Air Cooler Industrial Diesel Engine L48AE-DE11YC on eBay (end time 19-Jan-11 18:33:22 GMT) £300 buys you 4hp, recon your going to need at least 13hp for the splitter. Prices seem to be about £100 more than the equivalent unit from the Honda GX range? At that price you would recoup the additional outlay very quickly. Although you can also get LPG conversions for Hondas GX range, think its about £150 to convert them.
  12. A men to that.
  13. Depends on price, i am looking at bringing in products from the uk for sale here on the isle of man. What are you thinking price wise?
  14. Its certainly food for thought for adding value to your service isnt it!
  15. roger that... electric not suitable for me so no probs.
  16. After a lot of research and talking to suppliers i think for the arb waste i am processing a circular saw bench with conveyor is going to be the way for me to go. If i were processing large lengths of cord wood then a processor would be great but i am not. So this leaves me with a choice of saws.. ideally i want one powered independently so i do not have to use my tractor to run it. Anyone got any suggestions?
  17. I love mine too when running on the 885 it is really quick and munches through most bits i put in its way. Have also come to the same conclusion re the deck, mine is getting modified on mine as son as i can get some plate. A local machinery supplier is bringing them into the Isle of Man, i bought mine from him for £550 - would have cost me £80 shipping so figured id shop local... No it is not CE compliant, only one lever for operation and pull down and the splitter blade goes down. All bad in their eyes.. but great to use.
  18. Took some pics of my tractor when i brought it up to the house to add antifreeze etc. 1983 International 885 XL 4x4 Its a work in progress, did the wheels, wheel arches and the bonnet over the summer, still need to do the O/S door bottom and paint the cab.
  19. Hi Bob, thanks for sharing your experience. What was your solution for cord supply and delivery to user? I understand what you mean about the bigger picture, it is something that my wife and I have been doing a lot of over the last year. Did you have problems gathering all of your equipment within budget? At the moment i am looking for a front loader for my tractor or a tractor with loader or a skid steer oh and a large hydraulic pack the list seems endless. It also does seem that without getting a loan my pockets are not going to be deep enough for what i want...
  20. How are you getting on with the 280 processor?
  21. Can i ask what machine you have and what have you found to be the most common break downs for your processor? I have a good splitter at the moment and its occurred to me that i can get two long pipes made up so i can position it inside my field shelter so i am out of the wind and rain. My neighbour also has a good sized saw bench that he is willing to a do a deal on. IE firewood for next winter. I am just a bit scared of the saw bench, it was made well before health and safety so i would need to make some serious modifications to it to get it safe and easy to use. At the moment i am enjoying being debt free and any cash i earn goes into a cognac glass in the kitchen cupboard! Obviously if i spree £10k on a 4x4 delivery vehicle with hiab and tipper and £6 or £7k on a processor it will mean i will have at least a £10k loan which will probably be around £300 a month. So machinery wise i have a couple of routes to go down. With regards to the wood i am getting is not all straight or all under 10 inch, some is trunks cut into manageable/liftable bits, some is 4 foot 10inch sections, some is 3 foot 15inch sections.... basically all my timber is coming from a tree surgeon who is hand loading a tipper or tipping trailer at the clients property as a result all the wood i am getting can be lifted manually by one or two people even if only for a short distance. Wood types i have been getting recently are softwood - macrocarpa seems quite abundant locally, Ash, Sycamore, Beech, Larch & Eucalyptus. Local forests are Pine mainly. This timber dries quickly and burns very fast, mainly its good for kindling / getting your fire hot for burning hardwoods. I am thinking about/researching buying timber in from our local forestry department, but its not cheap so margins would be considerably lower. Also my mate runs a haulage firm and has an arctic lumber type trailer so its not unfeasible for me to import cord wood from a supplier in the northwest and bring it over to the isle of man on the freight ferry. thanks
  22. Checked my hydraulic fluid level as part of my full service and it seems the dip stick is too short... Actually after 20L it still was not showing on the dipstick, it took another 15L to bring it up to the top level on the dip stick! ooppss possibly should have checked this when i bought it in March. The splitter is flying now so the RPM on the tractor can be decreased to get good splitting power which in turn means increased Hours Per Gallon.
  23. Products looks good, any chance of sending me a price list so i can offer your products to my clients. Also do you have trade prices?
  24. Looking for the same views... anyone got any tips for those of us just thinking about taking the first big step?
  25. 6. Eucalyptus ….. 6 inch wedges, 10 inch long, stacked in the open with top covered got down to 20% in 6 months. Not sure what variety Eucalyptus it was though. Burning it now though and wow! feelin hot hot hot.. Also burning Sycamore that was felled and split 7 weeks ago. It was 36% yesterday morning and some is now 21% after spending a day/night/day by my stove.
