  1. Moving some beech today IMG_1466.MOV
  2. There’s a big problem here at Lough corrib with zebra mussels, not good for the trout stocks apparently . I think they got in stuck to boats that were also being used on infected lakes in the midlands. ironically , some of the lakes in the midlands were very badly polluted 20 or so years ago from slurry run off etc and the zebra mussel is thought to have cleaned the water back to levels that fish could live in again.
  3. I think there was a thread on these a white back under Major Stumpgrinder. I think the same grinder comes as a greenmech and they are pretty good
  4. I suffered with lower back pain for years until i found out I have fallen arches in my feet . the right insoles sorted it straight away. also suffer regularly with trapped nerves in shoulders and hips, have had physio for this. The right stretches, swimming and climbing regularly works for me. long shifts on tractor or sitting down seem to bring on the aches and pains

    Jokes???

Now I’m Irish and not much of a royalist but I think there are thousands of things we can share jokes about besides making light of the passing of Prince Philip r.I.p.
  6. Do you use all 5 in a days work?
  7. Many of the rural/village pubs have been struggling for a good while
  8. The groundwork/plant guys will take a lot of the ash dieback work. everbody and their dog has a tree shears now
  9. Probably small tracked units are most versatile. I would hire a few different machines and see what works best for you before committing. for us , a set of ground mats was a huge advance, both for getting mewp in and getting truck/chipper closer to the trimmings
  10. Hi. we had one of these chippers , there were definitely grease nipples for the feed rollers. Bush would be stuck to roller from no grease. Any type of grease and lots of it. we always gave a few shots every shift and bushes were still ok after 2500 hours.

    Bold doggie!
  12. Here’s one we did last July on a very wet day. had to walk the crane in on mats. 8 wheel Mercedes 50 tonner. crane company said it was the lowest ground pressure unit they had . brought the timber out with Valtra/crane and trailer on the mats also with no damage.

    Tw230

Green trimmings might fall short sometimes if not much stemmy woody stuff with them or if wet but most material will hit the headboard no problem (11 foot long body)

    Log Trolley

I made my own, all the bits materials etc probably cost €250ish (I did use wider tyres) took me a few evenings.(I enjoy making stuff) it’s super strong but heavy compared to the factory made ones. 400 is not a lot if you get the use out of it, and if you do lots of domestic work ,you will
  15. I used a tracked one and owned a 328 for around 6 years which is very similar size to 340 (I don’t know what’s difference between) Good solid machine, no major breakdowns while we had it and it’s still going strong for current owners. must have 4000 hours on it by now. good on woody stuff, a bit annoying the way small branches stick on the left hand side and a little bit high for feeding. lads always preferred feeding tw230 for most stuff unless too big or woody

  18. There’s a 200 an either Arbbay or Treebay groups on arsebook
  19. Thanks, I’ve often seen on pines but never noticed on spruce before
  20. My 10inch Jensen runs fine at 900rpm pto speed on a 95 horsepower Valtra or 100 horsepower Claas. might go to 950 for big material or can run as low as 750 for small. parameters on the no stress can be set at whatever rpm you want on Jensen, I don’t know about other makes
  21. Hi. anybody know what’s killing there trees, mainly Sitka spruce and some Scots pine. blueish stain inside bark.
  22. Used a makita battery blower last week , very impressed by the power of it. battery life at full power not great but would rarely need to run at full. guy who owns it has lots of makita stuff
  23. I’m not sure that there is any adjustment. our use very little oil but chain seems to get just about enough
  24. We had to leave a job 3 times last year where the landowner was not happy with terms of CPO on strip of ground for new road junction. he kept entering site despite court order. we were subby to civils contractors who give us a lot of work and are always prompt to pay. we had work nearby to go to each time we were stopped and lost very little time in reality but civils contractor insisted we got paid time for mobilising all equipment from home each time.
