  1. pretty much what I was thinking
  2. theres your answer: steel ones cost a bit but last forever.
  3. Good work.
  4. read that a few times, cannot figure out what you mean.
  5. yep, all bad no kidding.... pm me I will tell all
  6. Your choice, for me customers trying to screw you down on price is nothing personal, if you really stiff him you might not get it next year.
  7. do the work, take his money, he is a client not a mate, business is business,
  8. what size machine would you have used? and how many days?
  9. Has anyone on here gone through a steel flip line accidently or on purpose?
  10. Did not know that, hope never to find out.
  11. yea, thats what I meant, you wont cut through one of those.
  12. Steel strop?
  13. This thread has just got interesting, bringing to the light "The elephant in the room" When I started in the mid nineties, fresh out of college, I worked with a guy in london who used them all the time, when I informed him of his heresy (after telling me what exactly I could do with my opinions) he pointed out that many of the trees we were working on had been climbed countless times and reduced, thinned or deadwooded by him with no ill effect to the tree. I picked up the spikes and have used them ever since as have nearly all of the blokes I have worked with or subbed for. Although I live in France now I could drive round the home counties and point out hundreds of healthy trees that I have worked on without a mass extinction. There is no need to be spiteful with them just use them to get about easier and get into position.
  14. yep, could not agree more, polls like this are dull, dull, dull, how about red tube v xxnx?
  15. The Ranger looks like it would carry about 1mtr cube, with a 7 inch chipper he could fill it in about 3mins. The tranny looks like a conceptual diaster, beware when someone says they have not had time to finish it. Touching and bargepoles and all that.
  16. I have had a number of both saws, they all lasted two or so years of daily use before giving up, they have all been without exception absolutely brilliant. second hand small saws are probably on their way home.imho you should buy a new 200t ,
  17. Very good question, I have often though that my biggest money makers are the 6in timberwolf and tipper transit. A lot of the other stuff I have bought, Tipping Landys and bigger tracked chippers were bought for the wrong reasons (desire for boys toys) and have been a bit of an albatross.
  18. I thought there were college courses to learn this sort of thing? as for a charity well I would not give money for this, there are many, many worthier causes than training tree surgeons to identify fung etc, assume I will receive some flaming from the Sisters of Sanctimony but thats how I feel.
  19. Well I hope you use spellcheck when you do your quotes.
  20. These sort of things come up often, how much should I charge? somebodys too cheap etc. the answer is always the same to how much should I charge? As much as you can. Someones undercutting me... tough, thats business. Pricing is harder than anything you will do up a tree.
  21. Put in a CC claim it will cost eighty odd quid, when they receive it they will probably pay, all that stuff about their bad debts is not your problem, same thing happened to me and when I did that they paid as good as gold, probably they do this to everyone, they are not going to have a CC judgement against them for the relatively small amount that they owe a tree company.
  22. stay at home everyday then, look at the trees out of your window.
