  1. IMHO; Strip the ivy, then heavy reduction, I do not believe in scorched bark, it is, after all a sycamore and will regrow v.fast. Easy day, in the pub late afternoon.
  2. so not pollarding trees will save countless thousands of lives? not forgetting the premature births..........hum, well I will ponder that one
  3. There is nothing wrong with pollarding, trees like limes, planes etc do not suffer and I think that a nice gnarly knuckle in winter looks good; you simply cannot let trees get away in an urban enviroment, I might be a bit controversial when I say that a bit of college brainwashing against pollards might be at force here, what is the point of say, carefully reducing to growth points a line of limes close together in a street, they regrow like mad and within one year you are back where you started. I remember a tree officer telling me to cut to growth points on a Crack Willow! We all know the trees that don't like it, so avoid going too hard on those.
  4. Recently my ms200 went kaput on a job and the guy I worked with lent me his Echo, guess what? it was not too bad, for reductions and light work I ended up quite liking it. the big differnce is power, on large sections it it cannot compare with the Stihl, and when the job finished I bought another MS; but the Echo is not a bad saw when you look at the price.
  5. Just re-read B101's post and he pretty much nails it.
  6. Good thread , lots of useful stuff, suprised no one has mentioned ground anchors. A very handy tool. Re the vehichle damage I put the strop round the rear of the chassis rather than the towbar on the hairy stuff. Also its handy for re-routing the pull if there are no handy trees.
  7. Sorry to read about the accident, it sounds like a baddun' stumpgrinders are evil bastards. When you are ready perhaps you could outline the details so that other people (myself included) don't do the same thing. understandably if there are insurance complications you cannot do it. but anyway I hope the recovery is as quick as possible. Mick
  8. Hi Matt Its an 18ltr tank but it does have an cooler for the oil in front of the red. don"t kill yourself finding the tech stuff, only when its convenient. Thanks again, Mick
  9. Hi there, I have a 130 tipper with the hydraulic winch and a plug in point for hydraulic tools. Couple of questions as you seem to be a lot more au fait with the technical side. The tank for the oil is under the seat and the pump gives me 170BAR or 2500psi I would love to have a portable splitter, is yours run with a similar flow, and if so where did you get your splitter? next question as far as to tools are concerned, Portable sawmill in your op is there enough flow? According to the manual the pump works at 1500rpm, so I fitted a hand throttle to up the idle a little as I am sure the standard idli of the tdi is less than that, thoughts? finally a word of warning about the tipper conversion, even with heavy duty springs ie one inside the other carrying capacity is limited, plus you have to use Q rated tyres or the standards will bubble under the pressure. thanks for you time in advance, Mick
  10. had the same problem with the 3 i have had. in the end they went in the bin. in my humble opinion they are flawed, they seem overtuned, I replaced it with larger 372 which seems more comfortable with its power if you know what i mean. not anti husky just this model. A french husky rep privatly admitted some problems with the model.
  11. Cannot comment on the technical side but I have a H14 with a hydraulic pump on my tipper tdi. V.powerful and reliable I use a hand throttle to speed up the reel in and a radio remote with arange of 120mtrs for felling and many other uses. With a pulley it has persuaded some very recalcitrant trees to do as they are told. It also have a plug in point for hydraulic tools. Its going to be sold soon if anyone is interested around the 10k mark as I cannot register it here in France.
  12. take out the relays in the black box in the engine compartement, sometimes the vibration renders the contacts iffy, press them down and wiggle them (whilst running the motor) if it works suddenly you have your problem
