  1. theres the thing, whats a rope guide? I use a cambium saver to reduce friction, is that the same thing?
  2. I use a blakes hitch, I would like to try the new stuff but find all this terminology confusing, I wonder if anyone knows of a video or indeed could post one of themselves using one of these things that are at the moment just a series of letters to me. Being out here (in rural France) I rarely get to swap ideas and work with people using new stuff.
  3. seven and a half grand will get you a top quality 130 tipper, you can buy a lot of advertising with the change from that nailed together piece of nonsense. heres mine with a hydraulic winch and take off, (not for sale but you could get one for around that price)
  4. ok fair enough, ask youself what advantage this has over an ordinary 130 tipper? 'cos I cannot see any.
  5. Dead right, for someone like you who has the saw in their hands all day. For me who (perhaps) spends more time doing tree surgery using the saw for preparing for the chipper, weight is not such an issue. Point taken though.
  6. bump Channel 4 news tonight has an investigation into the practice.
  7. stuff like this can happen suprisingly often, once when I worked in London I had missiles thrown at me by an irate neighbour. Initially you take the wishes of busybodies seriously and are polite, after a while you get more blasé and learn to,at best, ignore them.
  8. Met the odd one like that in my time, lets hope something gets hit (powerlines, house etc)
  9. Hi Nick, I am in france also, imho the 357xp is a flawed saw, the stories of their premature demise are legion, I have had 2 let go long before their time. A friend has gone through 4 My advice is to buy something else a 372 or the stihl equivalent, I'm not anti husky, just this saw!
  10. I read a book recently called "Gypsy Boy" by Mikey Walsh, in it he describes this sort of thing plus other fascinating insights into gypsy/traveller lifestyles. Worth a read.
  11. genuinely thrilled for you:thumbup:.......really
  12. look its sunday night, do you honestly think I was serious? have a glass of vino and relax.
  13. Dead right!
  14. No offence intended just thought it more polite to use your avatar name.
  15. Oh right sorry, I used to work as a bailiff on a carp fishery in England, so I have a little first hand knowledge, and all I can say is I agree it does seem a bit cruel, some of the bigger fish can be caught many times a year. Do I believe anything should be done? no probably not: there are many more fields of animal mistreatment that need to be addressed beforehand. Anyway I hope some day to buy a fishing lake out here and put my saws away for good.
  16. Alright then you have lured me in, the key is of course the definition of the word sentient, the OED says "able to perceive or feel things" It is all semantics of course but I don't think plants are self aware, feel emotion, or in fact any of the things attributed to them by many people on here. I am not saying they are not superb and fascinating things but we tend to anthropomorphise (had to check the spelling) and I think this is a case in point. unusual for me to expand but I was asked. here are some emoticons for Fungus:thumbup:
  17. Ok then, Trees/plants as sentient beings? in a word........ No
  18. I think he was just having a laugh.
  19. I am in awe of the bravery and professionalism of those young lads but Ging makes a good point, they are there (iraq&afghanistan) to protect economic and political interests, does not make them any less brave but for me those are the reasons.
  20. forget it! bloody aromatherapists, always been bad payers!
  21. Firm but fair:thumbup:
  22. Absolutely classic! I have been keeping an eye on this thread knowing some New age dreamcatcher stuff like this would come up. Do you inform the lettuce, potates, broccoli aswell? ps.No real offence meant
  23. Just curious, why would you want the rear handle?
  24. Wrong, check an online etymological dictionary.
