I know a guy who works for a company that install them- I mean big business They go all over including France where they put them up in forests that have power lines running through them. They don't touch solar. I believe we will see a reaction to all this as the public start to understand that they are subsidising these installations to the tune of billions. I mean 42 pence per unit for production- who pays that for their leccy:thumbdown: But by all means go get it- while you still can:thumbup1:

Got it:thumbup1: Yeh- use it where appropriate is very much the case for me Though sometimes I forget myself and it just slips out as it's my first choice language for all things plant. I'll often know the latin name but have to dig deep for the common. Then again I'll often use both.

they use latin in medicine/dentistry/pests and diseases Often use chemical names rather than makers names. It just makes it more specific and it makes it a tool for discussion about the little differences or similarities between trees/shrubs. It's fascinating and I love talking latin names among like minded individuals. Don't knock it just because you've got some reverse snob thing going on- just accept it and use it if you need to/were trained to or use popular names if you feel they suit you better. It was explained to us that there are many common names within this country for the same weed. Just depends where you live. So if you use latin then there should be no confusion. Latin also helps with sub species for which there are often no common names. Also adds to rich tapestry of life Lamium punctata It also acts as a barrier to entry into a world that normal people don't inhabit. Exclusive eh? a bit V.I.P.

Thats very true I'm interested in your sugar comment though- is this a recommended practice I'm not saying - yes thats great we can use more chemical- it's just that some people want green weed free lawns AND trees. We have also noticed that shallow rooted trees and shrubs are much more susceptible to herbicides- though not noticed any effect yet with roundup. When applying residual herbicide to borders our general rule is use less where they live- this tends to tally with label guidance. It's a long time since I was educated and I know a lot has changed in practices and recommends. I'm grateful for all the info. that I am picking up on this site. I know I will never know everything- thats 100% fact

This isn't weed n feed AIUI its designed for non crop areas and is quite new so no need to 2 sugars your lawn lets hope they get it sorted as we are loosing horticultural chemicals this may be good but may be bad- cazaron was a good friend:001_smile:

It was the comments about not sleeping that got me Imagine there'd be quite a few sleepless nights.

So there is an old yew- say 300 years old then house gets built- with 60's foundations Cut tree down and if soil is plastic clay water ingress swells the soil- OK fair enough i would expect the house to move as soil swells -but- has there been any work done on the effect of the existing tree roots rotting and maybe taking up this swelling- just a thought. Plus is there any way this could be managed so the swelling happened in concert with root death.

Be interesting to know if yellow pages does actually 'pay for itself' Remember they charge a lot (say £500) for a small advert. You don't justify this with one job worth £500 I would want to see at least £5000 worth of work for £500 advert- maybe even £10000 as I can't justify 10% of my revenue going to advertisers. Currently we don't advertise at all other than web site there just so people can sus you out. Best advert is word of mouth- we all know that:thumbup1:

lets say that again.......... the majority of clients only care about the price Then when something goes wrong they wash their hands of your problem. However you look at it someone else will cut corners But try and be professional.. keep 80% within the rules and you can hold your hand up and say 'I did my best' On the subject of overloading though- Cabstars actually run better when chock full:thumbup: -
