  1. I'll admit to cutting trees down that I thought shouldn't be cut down- you just gotta do what you're told
  2. Do you now fell or is it big reduction for habitat?
  3. It's actually amazingly worrying But lets face it that means us time served tree guys/gals are one up on their likes. They prob did arb course cos they liked ropes- it's a bondage thing:biggrin:
  4. I'm glad someone mentioned cabanas these were fantastic but withdrawn bring back cabanas
  5. my first thoughts were its a lime my second thoughts were it's a lime
  6. i've enjoyed this discussion curry makes the price obvious leave it well alone
  7. Do you ever feel in danger of loosing the shiny toys as they need replacing?
  8. I would be very interested. When would you be able to do this
  9. Just wondering if anyone on hear can recommend a good course for learning more about tree reports. We are regularly asked to report on trees on sites where we work but I'm getting the feeling this is just so the landowner can use us as the scapegoat if there is an incident. They obviously need species & condition report plus recommendations. I get the feeling this is a growing area within the arb world and feel we could do this work well- but would we be able to stand up in court with authority without training in this field.
  10. Blimey- you keep your blades nice and sharp You want to put some road granite dust through- that'll sort them out. You'll not cut yourself then:001_smile:
  11. small electric is pretty tough but we found they overheated quite quickly if used hard and kept tripping out. This though may have been just our machine
  12. Very accurate but is it really necessary Could you not use other more 'countrystyle' methods We used to use a set square and spirit level and just sight along the angled edge- provided the base was level walk back or forward till you sight the top of the tree- always worked pretty accurate I presume though you had the laser for other work and have found this to be another
  13. Thanks I know what you're saying about end February- nesting does start really early Just get the feeling there's only likely to be maybe pigeons and possibly collared doves nesting now and we've seen no evidence of either and as theres plenty of other habitat on the site that we're not touching I feel now is about as good a time to do the work as there is. My concern is that I know there are a few people who have put bird feeders out in the area and who will be annoyed at what we have been asked to do. There is bound to be some ruffled feathers. I should be hardened to it I know. But if the s**t hits the fan what legally am I obliged to do. Anyone?
  14. We have been asked to cut back some mixed shrubbery containing ivy/ cherry/sycamore/ cotoneaster/ eleagnus/ senecio. Being aware that there are some bird lovers in the area and there is evidence of birds perching and feeding but I would be curious to know what legally do we really need to do before commencing operations. I have looked and not found any nests but is there anything else we should do before getting stuck in.
  15. Well said that man Surely no one is in that much of a hurry that a 30 second delay ruins their day
  16. I find even day rate is problematical You work hard and finish early and they ask for some money off or expect some xtras They don't also understand that your day doesn't finish when you have swept up
  17. Can you not just use stem injection with roundup
  18. This timber thing is just too complicated I'm gonna stick with nuclear physics:001_smile:
  19. Thats the one I'm putting casual climbers down as an additional employee on top of existing It's not worth the risk otherwise
  20. Thats put my mind at rest I've checked with my insurer and he confirms Thanks for your help
  21. Having noticed several posts on here advertising for climbers (experience and kit essential)- I am curious how no one specifies that they need to be insured (own insurance) to be what the insurance industry calls bona fide sub contractors. Or does 'fingers crossed' work. Needless to say I'm just going through the small print on my insurance.
