I think we can be rest assured it will be neither the Zama or Walbro carb. The last Zama one I got cost a fair bit of wedge but a few years back, they were just over £40 from L&S. The Zama doesn't flow as much fuel but it is very stable, the Walbro is impossible when the accelerator pump fails. Not sure I like these cheap carbs, they seem to have a tiny part of the low speed adjustment on the L screw where the sweet spot is where an OEM one has 1/4 - 1/3rd of a turn at least. It can make for a very unstable saw on idle.

Depends on the cost of the carb kit and the cost of the AM carb. I have used Chinese AM carbs here and there but they can be very sensitive on the L screw adjustment, some like the ones on MS200Ts are unusable and un-tunable. If the carb is damn cheap, buy the carb and if it isn't too hot, take the parts off and fit them on your OEM carb. Mostly OEM carbs can be rebuilt, there are exceptions that I have found where nothing works but it is relatively rare. How sure are you it isn't an issue elsewhere?.......carbon in muffler/exhaust port, dirty air filter, low compression, dirty fuel filter etc. The carb may just need a bit of carb cleaner down the H&L screw holes and a retune!

A week ago, all seems OK, got the peppers and cucumbers out now. I hate it when the toms go all leggy and the first truss is a couple of foot off the deck. Best get the toms in with loads of light to get a much lower truss and a bushy plant.

Yup, you are correct but old two strokes are old two strokes usually with hardened diaphragms, degraded fuel lines and buggered fuel filter. Seen those little spark modules on very old stihls before!

I did post my thoughts on your strimmer, probably worth looking at..... "When you test the spark, do it in subdued light and pull the engine over hard as sometimes, it isn't easy to see the spark. If no spark, try a new plug before trying a new coil as coils will cost a bit. If you do get a spark, I would service the OEM carb with new diaphragms, gaskets, gauze strainer and bulb.....I would also replace all fuel lines and filter. It is usually the fuel system that fails on old strimmers as fuel filters get gunked up and fuel lines rot."!

Did the OP fella ever fix his strimmer? He is probably scouring eBay for a KH750 Mach 3........and a strong crash helmet!

Not bad, all the toms are in the green house and around 5" tall, the peppers are also in (around 2" tall) will put the cucumbers out in the next couple of weeks. All auto irrigated.....screw fix timer which works really well. I am trying to get the earliest crops possible.

Your 280CD....I have a 280S that I have been through, a pretty clean example but no chain brake. All ready to go and for sale so if interested.....just PM me. Got to clear down some of the kit I haven't got round to selling! These machines do pull pretty hard in the cut.

Seen that part crack and fall apart as well. The 262 is an old machine, it happens!

Seen one or two of these manifolds crack, probably the heat and perhaps done up too tight on the carb mounting screws.

That's a MS661 but pretty similar, you need to remove the carb, undo all the AV mounts, remove the top handle and then pull the fuel tank off and then refit the new one. Takes 30 mins - 1hr and is relatively simple. The tank to plastic handle is plastic welded and can crack. Be 100% sure the join has cracked and is the issue as the new tank isn't cheap!
