  1. This will be absolutely no use to you whatsoever....... But me and a load of mates built an awesome hot tub at uni out of old pallets (structure), carpet underlay (insulation and comfort), and a giant tarpaulin (to hold the water). House parties were legendary and we used to get everyone to chip in for the 'leccy meter as we rigged up a hose pipe from the hot tap in the kitchen to outside and it took all day to fill up and shed loads of 50p's!!! The record was 16 people in it in one go! It was very sturdy and even had integrated seating at 2 levels. We wernt popular with the neighbours because we didn't go to bed full stop! Looking back, they were great care free times..... but in hindsight - I was probably a right tit!!
  2. What about a 'silky fox challenge' for next year paul where you do tree work in every county in the country! With the number of people you know I doubt it would very difficult for you mate!!
  3. my eyes were popping out on stalks mate!!
  4. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your mog at the APF! Absolutely awesome truck. Well done.
  5. Sorry bad reply technique by me there. Didn't use quotation marks silky!! I've got plenty beautiful spalted Turkey Oak milled myself already. Hope to show you some in a few weeks!
  6. Thanks for the reply maybe I will try milling a few smaller bits as most are over 4ft across. Just need a mill now and will be having a go. Go for it! Given that it's been in your yard for a couple of years it might have some interesting suprises when you mill it.
  7. No way!! Turkey oak is one of my most favourite timbers, especially when spalted....you can get a glass like finish too if you sand to 4000 grit.
  8. Have I just missed a whole month? Christmas starts on the 24th of december for me and ends on the 26th!
  9. It's hard work hey hodge. I'd much rather people were honest and either let you know they are using someone else or are going to put the job on hold... but not getting back to you at all is pure rudeness. As for the fencing job... sounds way too cheap and they sound to me like they aren't worth working for (hmm... and when it comes to paying up my experience says that these types are the slowest!!)
  10. Sounds good. Maybe a chainsaw milling demo and a charcoal burn on the go would add interest. I'll be up for it, especially if there's camping allowed!
  11. Sounds good. I'd be interested. I make a mixture of garden furniture, treen and turnery. How much for a stand/stall? I take it your basing the fair in Devon?
  12. Brilliant mate. Clear head is always a great thing. I'm buzzing this morning too, had a very successful craft fair last night and met some great contacts. What are you up to this weekend silky? Quotes? Work? Leisure?
  13. Glad to hear you're happy mate. I need to follow your lead with the fitness and healthy eating.... since my episode in hospital earlier in the year I've put on nearly a stone (a lot for me). Like you say it makes you feel lethargic and tired. As always your positivity is infectious and I'm looking forward to tuckers so we can catch up and talk all things arb!
  14. If you deposit into a savings account your pretty much guaranteed to loose, as it won't keep up with inflation. ----------------------------------- Exactly. Well said.
  15. Love the walnut. Looks incredible. I can't wait to get stuck into my batch of burr field maple. Just needs a little longer before it goes on the lathe!
  16. Funnily enough I've had the same comment. Seriously rude!
  17. Glad to hear you've got a new project to get your teeth into mate. Onwards and upwards.
  18. Thunder lightening rain hail wind sun! We've got the lot
  19. Yesterday I had "we don't normally like cutting down trees...but" wish I had a tenner for every time I've heard that one! From Tues. .. "the other bloke said the logs were worth £40, can you knock that off your quote?" ...er how about NO!! "How did your rope get up there?" "I bet you get good money from the council for all that woodchip" "I'd like you to lay this hedge for me. We want it to keep the sheep in" (hedge was lawsons cypress!) "How much will you pay me to fell the tree, the timbers worth a fortune you know" (tree was Scots pine) "I didn't realise you were going to actually climb the tree" All the usual classics no doubt!
  20. Windy here too jon. Takedown I'm doing today will be fun!
