  1. Cold and dry would be ideal. Can't stand endless days of getting soaked like a drowned rat.
  2. Having just recently got back from Oz. Which incidentally is truck heaven, I saw loads of this style toyota going round. I never imagined it would cost that much though. Ridiculous.
  3. Couldn't agree more. My wife is a primary school teacher. I hardly ever see her as she's working all the time (gets home at 6-30 then works until midnight/1am) every weekday then spends all weekend planning. The politics and bitchiness I hear about are enough to drive you mad!
  4. Treated myself to an '08 130 crew cab HCPU. .... absoloute beauty of a truck. Just put some bf Goodrich all terrains on her and had new discs and pads. If anyone is selling an expedition roof rack to fit a crew cab defender or an ifor hard top for a 130 HCPU please get in touch. Pete
  5. Thank you all for the kind messages of support. I'm excited about the change but squaring everything away and drawing a line under things isn't quite as easy as I thought it would be! Word of warning to anyone who ignores symptoms of appendicitis..... 7 hours of surgery was required to save me from snuffing it. Don't be an idiot like i was thinking your tough and you can put up with any pain!!! The surgeon told me to make sure I bought a lottery ticket on the way home. Any way, I've got chainsaw oil in my blood so I won't be going far! Sent from my SM-G900F using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. Hi everyone, ive not been on here for a long while now. It is with sadness and a heavy heart that im selling up and finishing my small arb business. 3 months ago I suffered a burst appendix and peritonitis which knocked me for six and quite litterally nearly killed me. After 12 weeks of recuperation and reflection I have decided that I need a change. My kit is listed on Arbtrader under my profile name of Yaffle trees so get over there and check it out if your after a 130 tipper, chipper, stump grinder or road tow logsplitter. I am going to continue with my love of trees and timber but I shall be taking a step away from arb work and focus on timber crafts (another passion of mine). Hopefully this will be slightly less demanding on my body and cause me a lot less anxiety and stress (a problem that running an arb business was causing me to suffer with, for all sorts of reasons). After all life is too short and I want to enjoy every minute of it! I know they say once an arb always an arb and im sure this is true so i'll be arbtalking regardless of what I do, but expect me to be lurking in the timber and woodcraft forums from now on! Cheers Pete aka Yaffle
  7. Magnolia update. Got some gorgeous pieces (heavily figured) from the windblown tree..... Unfortunately having kept the main stem in a relatively long length (5ft) the lovely old lady came out While we were having a brew, took one look at it and said "perfect, that will make a lovely bird feeder. Can you put it on its end standing up over there" Much to my horror!! (Which I tried not to show of course)......Gutted. Will post pics of the blanks when I get round to cutting them.
  8. Hi guys sorry just cleared a few messages. Been flat out this week but looking to sort this out over the weekend. I shall go through all messages and kind offers of help this evening an get back to you. Pete
  9. Thanks for all the replies. I shall try and message you all in due course. Looks like arbtalk could be saving my neck!!!
  10. Yew is specifically what we are after. My own fault really as I gave her a choice of options and the heart has been set on yew!!!
  11. Indeed they are - I know yandles well. They are very pricey on timber and what's more id rather give some coin to a fellow arbtalker.
  12. Thank you for the offer though. It is good to know its available
  13. Not entirely sure about the cherry. Bit concerned by how stable it will be especially cross cut. The yew testers I've done seen to be quite stable
  14. Gone over root plate and all. It's been sat underwater in the floods and also its tight against a wall and the rootball has been restricted on one side. Very tall slender crown too.
  15. Beautiful timber but rock hard to mill in my experience.
  16. Ok ill revert back to the usual of running it through with a saw then.... approx length is 8ft. No branches or defects to speak of
  17. Indeed silky! After all we're getting married in the woods and the reception is in an old carpenters barn surrounded by sequoia and a champion Oak tree
  18. Ok thanks for the advice. Will get it split on the riko splitter!
  19. Got any pics? The long haired Sargent major is particular after yew!! But if it is really nice I might be able to convince her! I know cherry can be a bit prone to splitting but that the gamble I suppose. Process is to cut thin with the bandsaw and sand up both sides. Keeping the bark on.
  20. Desired diameter is 3&3/4" to 4" 4" would be perfect
