  1. I shall be keeping hold of it at my yard so its there longterm if you ever want some. In the meantime is it a nice timber for turning? Any pics?
  2. Picture I what I am aiming for Picture of current problem I.e too small for a regular wine glass!!!
  3. Hi all. I am after some lengths of straight (if possible) dry seasoned (if possible!!) yew branch wood. It is a project for my wedding in may. I am making drinks coasters 150 odd of them and the timber I have is too small a diameter. Please get in touch with details of timber, location and price. Many thanks in advance Pete
  4. Yes it is, which can make it more awkward when parking and as mentioned turning circle is even worse than a 110
  5. Initially im thinking of its pottential for my own use, however all my blanks/timber are always up for sale.
  6. I've got a windblown magnolia booked in for Thursday this week. The tree has quite a nice straight main stem on it 18-20" diameter. Could be nice for some small bowl blanks. Anyone had any good results from turning Magnolia before?
  7. My td5 130 tipper is a good old workhorse which I have no problem driving round for quotes and the odd pop down the shops. But the turning circle of an oil tanker doesn't help with tight manoeuvres!! The new defenders are much more refined (for a defender that is!!) inside making it a more pleasant experience comfort wise.
  8. Thank you guys for the info and pics. You can't beat seeing it to understand what you want.
  9. Three words.... Very good job!!
  10. This big ash had gone over in my mates woodland and took a field maple with it - just left there hanging!!
  11. Any chance of uploading some pics please? Would be very much appreciated. Despite the fact durham is a long way from me just to see the design would be very helpful.
  12. Update - I have finally got round to ordering a new 130 chassis. Got all the options I wanted etc. been told that it could be ready by 20th May which was a lot better than the sept / oct I was first told yesterday! I have to say that Alvar (sales) and Simon (the manager) down at Guy Salmon in Bristol were very helpful and so far I'm pleased. Fingers crossed it comes early and that I can get the tipper/chip box/accessories sorted fairly pain free! - back to the research and quote finding. Watch this space...
  13. Right so I went ahead and ordered the 130 chassis. I've been told it could be ready by 20th may (originally warned it could have been sept/oct!!). Now to finalise some plans for the tipper/chip box and accessories!! Fingers crossed it won't be too much of a nightmare to get this project completed!
  14. A shallow fruit bowl made from some spalted beech. Just bought some 'cole jaws' so I can make myself a reverse mount chuck. Enabling me to 'turn off' my original chuck mounting. I think personally that it will improve the look of my pieces - well that's the hope anyway!! A spalted beech pen holder turned in 20 mins - my workbench desperately needed this addition as my pens and pencils were very often mislaid or would roll off onto the floor before! A selection of bowl blanks cut from a mixture of woods gathered from tree work. All ready to be sealed and air dried. Dug out this 15" x 4&1/2" spalted beech bowl blank I cut a while ago - might have to be my next project!
  15. Forgot to mention that the bowl came from the same tree (a burr from the branch wood).
  16. A small jewellery bowl i turned from Burr acacia - My absolute favourite wood. Not a spectacular piece of turning but the wood is the champion in my opinion! As I've mentioned in a few pm's to Clive there's a lovely stem of heavily burred acacia lying in my friends woodland (which hopefully we will be dealing with very soon).
  17. I look forward to seeing the finished results of that catalpa, as ive got 50 or so bowl blanks cut from an indian bean tree that blew over at the local country park. The warden there gave me the nod which was good of him!
  18. My tdci 90 xs has been a beauty (so far touch wood!) Been holding off taking the plunge on a new 130 defender to replace the old td5 130, but inspite of the iva nightmare I think im going to crack on anyway. I just resent the idea of paying for it for 3-4 months but not having the use of it!
  19. Recently bought a pair of air streams, I think they are cracking boots. Very comfy and feel lighter than what I was used to before (haix). Slipped a few times but then you do when your stomping over wet ground with sweet chestnut coppice everywhere.
  20. Ive been quoted anywhere between, 3.4k and 9k! Getting very frustrated over the iva/type approval stumbling block.
  21. Unfortunately you can't get ABS or traction control on a new 130. I'm in the process of having one built and that was two things not available. However on my 11 plate 90xs the traction control is awesome so I agree with you there.
  22. Nope and I've never been bothered to replace or mend the zip that breaks after the first week either!!!
  23. I hope you charged well for that graham? Sounds like an epic!
  24. Pangolin APC's and WMIK's, perfect for when a customer doesn't pay!
