  1. Spray now then strim in 2-3 weeks then spray any regrowth. Should do a great job at this time of year.
  2. does your workshop have wheelchair access? I am pretty good at getting into most places so it doesn't have to be that great. Where abouts are you?
  3. thought you might have gone for a pasture topper on the back of a tractor. Cheap and quick!
  4. I was going to say about it growing through as I chopped of all the growth on the south side of a hedge hoping it would grow through. 3 years later it has made a lovely hedge half the width and if you didnt look hard you would never know
  5. If you remove the grassclippings it will grow more slowly and if you leave them on it will grow more quickly. You can use this to your advantage
  6. game bird eggs may be taken by people that have the rights to kill game birds on that land or if you have permission from those people so technically you can touch them if you are one of those people
  7. Eggs collected before the pheasant starts sitting can be turned daily and then incubated when you are ready. They will last for a couple of weeks before you need to start but the less time the better the chances. A broody bantem hen could be the best option and if they are running without a cover over the pen they would probably fly away once they are ready. Otherwise they will make a good breakfast!
  8. if you are looking for a wild flowing meadow you should remove the turf as you need to lower the fertility to allow the wild flowers to grow with less competition from vigourous grasses
  9. when you say a wildlife area what do you mean?
  10. Taking this a bit more seriously I have noticed more and more I forget the things I really should know. Like names of plants and names of family members lol
  11. I had a really good puzzle book somewhere. Just cant remember where I put it.
  12. That are so many reasons for having moss but the drainage is far and away the first one I would look at. Have you done tests on ph? The best way is to use lawn sand or soluble ferrus sulphate to kill the moss then scarify. Then look at the reasons for the moss so you can try and reduce the chances of it coming back. Feed the lawn well during the growing period as you want the grass to grow well and not the moss
  13. get a quad and have some fun racing round
  14. Well done hope you get some work on the back of it
  15. Has anyone thought of fitting a water pipe to the chimney so in the event of a fire you just turn on a tap?. Just a thought I had years ago when a fire got going near the pot and was drawing air down from the top.
  16. it is a bit early for using roundup unless you want to wait a couple of weeks at least as the plants are not growing that well yet. I would hire a compact tractor and rotavator. After a few passes nothing would be left of the old lawn and the organic matter would improve to top soil. Then firm by rolling with the turf tyres if dry. Rake level then turf. Nice lawn in photo btw.
  17. I have worn out my shoulders with too much far work /gardening. ultrasound at age 46 showed typical wear of 50% of 60 years old. I became paraplegic age 46 so shoulders very important now. One shoulder fixed by keyhole.I was pushing the wheelchair after 3 weeks and back at work as groundsman after 6 weeks. Still thinking about having the other one done!
  18. You can overlap with a dropper too! I always used half rate and more often to avoid these problems. Easy when you are on the job every week
  19. Stringy poplar split with hydraulic splitter. Stop just short of complete split then hold splits open with a bit of kindling. Works a treat
  20. It may be that there is a microswitch that senses whether it is either in gear or whether the operator is on the seat. If this is faulty it could cut out. I am not for one moment saying that you should do this but if you bypass the switch and it no longer cuts out when the cutters were engaged then it would prove it was a faulty switch.
  21. Leave it where it lies or stack it for the envoronment and save the cost of moving it
  22. Yes get holding number. Then read what you can feed and what you cannot. Feeding anything that has never been in a kitchen for food preparation may be OK but you cannot even use a knife that has been in a kitchen for preparing some foods. Defra has a good site with this information on and it is not that daunting really. Killing for own consumption can also be done within strict guidelines. Again read up!
  23. I have looked into this several times as I am paralised waist down and wanted to use a high seat for shooting deer. I was shown a 4:1 system that works very well. Sorry no pics
