  1. I thought of the 560, but I'm not sure it would be up to a 20" bar for everyday use; also, I have an old 365 which bars, chains and spare bits can be interchanged if neccessary. What I'm getting at is there's 2 flavours of 365/372s as I understand it - the older 365/372 which uses the old type of engine, and the new ones which use the new type of X Torque, scavenging, strattyfieing whatever you want to call it? So the new 365 is actually 70cc (ish), more powerful than the old one, just not sure if they're available yet or how to tell which one I'll be getting? Of course, I may have the wrong end of the stick, but that's how I understood it.
  2. Hi all, After me and my 346xp took a bit of a dive into a river, I may well be in the market for a new ground saw I'm looking at the 365, as I've got an old one which I like. If I buy a new one from one of the suppliers on here, will it have the newer X Torq engine, or the old one? If it has the new engine, the plan is for it to run a 20" bar most of the time going up to 25" for the occassional bigger bit, does that sound reasonable or too much? cheers, Joe
  3. I brought a pair of SIP Freedom Cs to do my climbing course, a week later I aquired a pair of brand new Hiflex type Cs for a bargin price. It's handy having two pairs in case you get absolutely soaked or caked in mud, you can give one pair time to wash and dry out properly while wearing the others. I like the SIPs as they feel much tougher than the hiflex but heavier, and try and use them for ground work, and save the hiflex for climbing. Hope that helps!
  4. I like that ocean description a lot, I tend to think of myself in terms of rivers: I'm currently paddling about upriver in a little coracle, slightly upstream are the companies I subby for in little motorboats, out in the estuary is the bigger boats and then right out at sea is the oil tanker that is Tilhill etc... if that makes sense? I want to get to motorboat level at least!
  5. How about working for £50/day, and he pays for a NPTC assessor to come and ticket you up in his woods? That way you make a bit of money, all be it not too much, and get your cs30/31 without having to fork out of your bank and find a week off work. He gets it done fairly cheap, might be a good compromise?
  6. I've got a couple of the Oregon ones, they've lasted fine and they're about half the price of the Stihl offering! Also the Stihl no spill nozzle fits on them if that's an issue for you, don't know about the Husky nozzle.
  7. for £300, I'd look for a used 026/260, they seem like a nice robust saw to toss around, not the quickest cutting perhaps but will get the job done...
  8. I think one bumper sticker should read "Arbtalk - Good Work Position Is Everything", I've got that saying stuck in my head now thanks to Mr Fox
  9. I brought one of these the other day, so far it seems OK. Will see how long it lasts, for a tenner I thought it worth a try! Will get 50m of rope, weaver harness, spikes and all the other bits in just right. B&Q 30" Value Tool Bag Polyester Bag, 0000005263929
  10. thanks for the replies, will bear them in mind! Forgot to say, I've already got a Gecko strop so that's sorted, it's just the main line I'm thinking about, not decided which one yet for sure... just starting to experiment with different friction hitches at the moment, as decided a prussik might not be for me. Just wanted to know what length is advised, as I don't really have much experience in this area. I suppose it's better to go slightly too long though. cheers Adam, was good to chat about first aid, thanks for the info.
  11. Hi all, I may be in the market for a new rope in the near future, my current one I didn't have much choice on the length, and at 50m I suspect it's a bit long for my needs. I haven't been climbing very long, and don't expect to be doing massive trees in the very near future! What would be the best length, I'm thinking 35m should do fine for most trees but don't really know Also, I'm neither here nor there on spliced eyes, my current rope doesn't have one and I'm quite happy tying knots, are there any real benefits to a splice? Never really used one so not sure. Apologies if this has been covered before, I tried a search but couldn't find much relevant. cheers, Joe
  12. any dates in mind mate? cheers!
  13. is that the one day course I assume, and specific to chainsaw/timber related injuries? I might be tempted if so, it's a bit far is the only thing.
  14. Husky 365 with 20" bar, still going strong, a lovely all round saw
  15. I'd have thought steel winch cable might be the best bet? Edit: Beat me to it!
  16. at least one pair of size 12 chainsaw boots, preferably a few to see which ones fit best would be nice please...
  17. this the solo you are talking about? I'm on the verge of getting one as my first top handed saw, seems like it's pretty good then?
  18. thanks a lot, will get in touch with him
  19. Cheers Ali Thanks a lot mistahben, I'll look him up and send him an email
  20. Hi all, I've got a few dates to fill up, and interested in anything that might be about! I'm based in the Forest of Dean, willing to travel throughout Gloucestershire, and the nearer parts of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, possibly to Bristol. CS30/31/38/39, LANTRA brushcutter, First Aid Appointed Person. I'm booked onto the chipper course at the end of September. Own kit. I'm happy to drag brush and feed chippers, and I won't pretend to be a very experienced climber as I've only had the tickets 2 months. However, I would be very keen for any work that might let me get a bit more experience of climbing PM, email [email protected] or phone 07882 101819 to discuss. Cheers, Joe Rose
  21. just seen this if you're interested, don't know if you're willing to travel to Devon or not KHS Conservation: Chainsaw Operators, advertised with CJS.
  22. Fell the pines, offer a "plant a tree for £10" so tourists can plant a tree and go away with a certificate saying how very green they are and feeling good. Then, run a raft building course using all the pine poles you've just felled
  23. Not sure if it's happening to anyone else, but when I just tried to get on here firefox flashed up big red warnings telling me not to even think about going on arbtalk.co.uk as it was trying to install malware onto my computer? Don't know why this is, is it just me or anyone else getting it
  24. Can you text me your number please and i'll give you a ring, having internet problems at the moment. I have lantra ticket and plenty of experience doing this sort of work, my number is 07882 101819. Cheers joe
