  1. I wonder who that could be selling it
  2. I like all the sip stuff I've had so far, and tempted by the innovations for next time I have to buy trousers.
  3. Hi all, Just got a Hitch Climber the other day, and been playing with a Distel. I haven't got an eye to eye cord, instead just using a metre of Beal Regate cord on Yale XTC Fire. I was taught the Buntline as a tie off knot for the main line, and that's all I've ever used really. However, this doesn't seem to be suitable for tying off either side of the pulley, as it's a bit untidy and seems to work loose. Anyone not using an eye to eye friction cord, what knot do you use to tie off to the karabiner either side of the pulley please? Tried a search but couldn't find anything... Cheers!
  4. My philosophy is don't worry for a minute how much anyone else is making, its not a competition unless you make it one! Are you happy with what you earn, forgetting about the grass cutters? If so don't sweat it, if not ask the boss for more or go elsewhere At the end of the day, we're all just gardeners dangling on a bit of string
  5. I can't even begin to describe how terrible wellies are to work in every day, especially in the summer! Any of the site sponsors should do a half decent pair of boots for well under that - £100-120ish should get a pretty good pair to start with.
  6. Are you planning to be in the boots every day, or just using the saw once in a blue moon? If you're going to be wearing them all the time, get the very best pair you can afford - nothing worse than working all day in uncomfortable boots. If you're only using it once in a while, you could probably get away with a pair of chainsaw wellies or similar.
  7. I have had two pairs of Stein boots, not the Phantom think they were called Bergsteiger or something like that. Both pairs were very comfortable, waterproof and lasted reasonably! Currently on red SIPs, will see how they last otherwise would go bakc to Stein without a moments hesitation
  8. I got a pair of these SIP boots about 6 weeks ago - so far I've been very happy with them, very comfortable and haven't had cold or wet feet yet SIP chainsaw boots (class 2) | F R Jones and Son

They're a great saw, you should get years of use out of it
  10. Ammo box full of chainsaw tools, adjustable spanner, common sockets and screwdrivers, Stanley knife, cable ties and duck tape - basic get me out of trouble kit. When things get serious, there's a lump hammer and crowbar stashed in the landy :-)
  11. I got a pair of red sip boots last weekend - they're very comfy and seem pretty waterproof, happy with them so far but have only had them a week!
  12. there's a chap on ebay, can't remember full username but it's something like harrythecat, he's based in Haverfordwest - does a lot of reconditioned ex council machinery for a decent price. Might be worth looking into, I don't usually buy secondhand kit but wouldn't hesitate to buy something from him .
  13. Hi all, Been asked what this is on an Oak, and I'm not quite certain - trying to work out what it is, can anyone help please? Red on bark, and apparently last year it was well before all the other Oaks in the area in losing its leaves in the autumn Thanks, Joe
  14. I replace mine every 18 months to 2 years, by the time the ear defenders are getting a bit tatty I reckon it's had plenty of UV, small knocks etc - I'd rather be certain my head is relatively safe, it's a small price to pay IMO Also, I reckon having a new(ish) helmet looks a bit more professional
  15. Hi all, Need a climber with some experience of rigging in Cheltenham for Wednesday next week; failing that, a groundy with at least basic experience of lowering stuff. If you've got your own rigging kit that would be nice, but not essential. If you can't do next Wednesday but are still interested in work in the Gloucestershire area, drop me a line because I could do with expanding my list of people I can call on for the occassional day here and there PM, email [email protected] or give me a bell anytime on 07882 101819. Cheers, Joe
  16. For a day to day, general use saw I prefer mine to a 372xp - it's not a screamer of a saw, but will deal with anythng you throw at it until you get into 660 territory. Plus, it's much more suited to cutting firewood than the whizzy little 346xp, IMO
  17. 20" usually, do have an 18" and 24" kicking around, but 20 seems to be where it's happiest (and I'm quite tall, so it saves me bending so much!)
  18. I'd go for a Husky 365, a 70cc saw for the same price roughly as the 550xp, tried and tested design and would fit in nicely for stuff too big for the 346xp, but a little overkill using the 660 on. But then, I do love my 365, IMO one of the best general purpose, all round saws out there
  19. Did mine myself, searched for a suitable CSS template on the web to save the time, then everything else done with Notepad (it's already on your computer, unless you use a Mac) and the GIMP (free alternative to PhotoShop, does everything I need it to do). If you go down this route you need to be reasonably computer savvy though, if not it might be easier to pay someone to do it.
  20. Hi chaps, I'm looking for a regular supply of Cherry timber in Gloucestershire - not a massive amount, one small tree a month or something? Must be green and fairly straight timber, will pay cash monies or swap for Ash or Oak firewood... Failing a regular supply, if anyone knocks over a Cherry in the area then give us a shout! Cheers, Joe
  21. If you are strimming it, with the right technique you can get it all in nice lines rather than all over the shop - especially easy with one of the metal tri blades :-)
  22. Well I didn't make it to the arb show, so imagined it might have been released there... apparently not though! Not sure what the forum rules are on posting links to dealers that aren't site sponsers, but there's definitely one sat in a showroom 4 miles from me with a price tag on
  23. Just went into my local dealer this afternoon to pick up some files and safety glasses, there's a t540xp sat on the shelf labelled £524.99 inc VAT... is this old news? Anyone got one yet? Or am I about to be flooded with requests to know which dealer
  24. "Liked" all the ones posted so far...
