  4. hi there,

I like to dabble in words from time to time and would be delighted to trial your trousers for you. I'm a contract climber with a small outfit of my own. Currently use stihl and sips depending on the job.

Contact 07811385870 or [email protected] / Send trousers to The Hermitage, Rydal, Cumbria, LA229LR

PS dead wooding a sequoia in a fortnight if you want a dramatic photo of your trousers in use.

    Kind Regards,

    Ben

  5. hi mate, sorry to be out of touch for a while. Rydal Hall went cold on the 5m high carving idea but are keen on a 1-1.5m one. They have a yurt or camping pod available at the end of August for a week to stay in and another yurt where you can display a sample of your carvings for sale. Rent for both yurts is just an item of your work for the site. This could be in the butt of the tree or a free standing carving. they might take a free standing one in exchange for the yurts and pay a contribution to you for the carving up the butt say £100 a day for two days??? the other days of te week have as either a holiday or work out by the gallery yurt doing displays to draw in the punters?

    does any of that appeal?

  8. wish that volcanic cloud would come back
  9. why, how much is it?
  10. GREAT NEWS been having a training day with my groundies. getting them to rec climb and simulate a few rescues. i took the op to try out all those new knots i've been reading about. Some are really good. the knut, mitochean and swabish is particular. helical ok, VT seemed fine, no problems with slippage but a rather cumbersome knot to lower on. Got them all self tending well with just a crab. Will have to try a micro pully or HC next.
  11. Marlow Boa 9mm Friction Cord
  12. any progress with this idea Steve? would be a great resource. save on repitition of threads

  14. is that a nice bit of poly prop ove rthe branch and being lowered by hand i see?
  15. hey JD, if you're looking for the cheapest saws in our area go to dougie ivison up at melmerby. e puts a massive discount on all his saws and kiy. well worth the extra drive out to his place. he often has a range of saws that he's reconditioned and selling second hand but i'd still buy new unless you're really not expecting to use it much. a 353 by husky is a great saw to start. i think doug sold me one for £290. it's still running fine 5 years later. the 357 is a great saw but a bit more moody and a hell of a lot more £££.
  16. what's there price for bio then?
  17. Some consideration needs to be given to the nature of the hitch, when choosing what to climb with. Out and out 'performance' of a hitch isn't everything. Simplicity and fool proofness in a knot is important. We all get tired towards the end of a day and combined with wanting to get it all done... can lead to stress and increased chance of operator error. working with simple knots can have an advantage in this aspect, and can potential increase work speed, in so far as your hitch won't need to be checked, dressed and set at every new work position. Some times i feel gear and stuff get used by folk to take away the need for the body to work. If you're to unfit to climb up a tree and 'have' to use high performance hitches to climb and last a week, perhaps work on your fitness. if you're having trouble limb walking, improve your balance, set up a slack line and give it some practise. i understand the spider jack et al are worth a go but then its another load of £££ not in your pocket. Hope this fella gets better green ninja.
  18. ... no just a mild case of ego-mania. Perhaps turn it into motivation to do something good for your communtiy, the disadvantaged, mankind, the environment? .
  19. is that weird / stylish look achieved by a new weave or by multicolourerd strands?

  23. if it's related to your work you can claim it. books on trees, claim it. educational dvd's, claim it. gym membership - can't claim it. (it's deemed indivisable from personal) flyers / signs on your vehicle - claim it aa membership - claim it est arb mag - claim it. when i was a care worker and took my dog to work he was great with the kids - the accountant said i could claim 50% of all his food and vets bills
