  1. if it's dry it will burn well. lots of oil in it.
  2. which red one. the 13mm-16mm or the 16mm ... Blocks/Pulleys - Sorbus International Ltd
  3. trees are a renewable resource. so long as we are planting, then no guilt. do you all have active replanting programs? if not get on it. the woodland trust will provide free trees for you to plant on private land. pm me for the north west regional contact or look up the head office online. if you're cutting every day and not thinking about this then i think you're missing a fundemental dimension of awareness and should rethink. veterans i strongly believe should be protected. i believe it is each and everybodies duty of care as professional in the industry to be actively watching out for and responding to unscruptulous development.
  4. so do you refund anyone that does what you ask and cuts the gear up?
  5. the chain was out the box. so should of been good. i like the down hill tip. Do you position yourself above the bar and push or pull down onto the wood? I was putting in spacers every metre. any anti vibe gloves you'd recommend? it was a douglas fir. the butts a bit wider then my mill and saw. what's the best way to deal with that? cut it in two or saw off the sides? I'll try and take some pics.
  6. was the tree you clattered a couple of times ok just trying to be picky. looked like a great job tall tree from the looks of things
  7. dig them out and sell them for big money. certainly more then spoons
  8. who here would do anything about there usage. we're quick to moan but who wuld set a limit on the distance they travel to 30 miles and if they got an enquirey out side the area then pass it on to a colleague and hence reducing fuel usage, carbon emisions, etc. who would do it? would i do it? it could work with a recipricol arrangement
  9. have any of you heard about 'peak oil'? if not look it up. It's a limited resource and us humans have apparently got through more then half of what we know is in the ground, and more of us are using more of it then at any time in history. Hence... prices go up.
  10. I made my first effort at milling yesterday. Loved it but found it fairly hard work. Any advice from you that are tried and trested would care to give would be well recieved.
  11. funny... there's many a debate on here where people won't pay skilled groundsmen and climbers £80 a day.
  12. a lot of the shots of the trees on the lake shore are by friars crag down from the theatre by the lake. awesome root structures on display
  13. they are groundies, not climbers, but more then just a brash dragger
  14. what you paying for a groundie hodge, I know a few but they are upper end groundies with climbing tickets, know how to lower and been in it for a while etc. even if it just helps to tide you over.
  15. i find those crates garden centres get paving stones delivered in are great for seasoning wood in. Free, keep it off the ground, no stacking, just chuck it in.
  16. link didn't work right... I like the advertising. try this... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_CDLBTJD4M&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - ????[/ame]
  17. you could always get them to pollard it. It would grow into a fuzzy lollipop but it would save the tree and eat up carbon still
  18. TOUCH WOOD SH-08CbNTTƒhƒRƒ‚
  19. had a dead tree over a river to bring down as part of a multiday job at a caravan park. Didn't get to it the first day. Came back the second day and it was down. Park owner was a little twitchy. Had to explain to both the park and the neighbours that i hadn't touched it. Came down 3m from a caravan. Still, it made them take their trees a bit more seriously.
  20. No, you're not thick. I was just in a rush out the door. I meant it as... The Blakes hitch will self tend well with a pully. Sorry to not be clear.
  21. the next step from the prussic, it's a blake. It's a lovely knot. I still do all my small to medium trees on it. It's cost effective, smooth, doesn't jam up. Safe as houses. It self tends nicely too. Don't get me wrong, I've got a hitch climber. Use a variety of knots on it. It 's great for the bigger trees and limb walking. Still not convinced by the Vt though. It's a lovely knot but I don't like having to think about it when I'm busy. Had chance to play around on a spider jack last sunday. It was lovely. Did seem too nervey on the descent either. Tended like a dream. Thing is i like knots and I'm a tight bastard. I won't be buying one.
