  5. for a wee job, i'd just get on with it. but a crane attracts a lot of attention and you don't want to screw around with day rates like they charge.

  7. Call 07811385870 for a days work next week. 10 min north of Melton Mowbray Must be Reliable Climber that can work with initiative. Rate to be discussed.
  8. most of the time i use a 10m rope. type??? orange new england maybe? anyone else climb on a short line? obviously if a tree is more then 15m then i use a 50m spearmint xtc. but i find the manoeuvrability of the short line a joy & stops it dangling on a road or line (power/railway) or getting chipped by the numpties on the ground. when using the short line i use a prusik because its reversible and saves pulling the line through on reanchoring. 95% of the time i use my 5m flip line on my d's. have a soft strop but it only comes out for low% reductions where there's a lot of swift silky work. On most trees using a long rope i use a blakes unless there's a lot of passage in the tree when i move onto the hitch climber and knut. up a sequioa last week to dead wood it. was using the short line as a strop and flipping it higher on each side.
  9. from experience these haven't let me down. very good in the snow. excellent on the road, no noise and great milage. only mild weakness is on very steep unconsolidated mud/stone. but every tyre is a trade off. i go off road fairly often. at least 3 times a wek. but i'm still on road the majority of the time. and these handle fantastically on the road for an off road tyre
  10. just ask around locally. theres loads of land about. look around. just find a bit out the way and find out who's it. say you want to store some logs there. they might just need a tree trimming in exchange. that's how i got started. add in the local news agent or post office or ask people walkig dogs.
  11. but it's a real drag when dancing. it's all prose and no poetry
