  1. That all depends on who you are and what present you send Paul! You'd have to ask him
  2. ^^ what he said
  3. Yeah similar but no sling needed:thumbup:
  4. Dont choke it up too tight to the stem Mark, that gives it a bit more space to pull out.. sometimes needs a good yank to break it out:001_tt2:
  5. I think you will find they all have quite a bit of bounce compared to cougar blue, as the cougar is very static and the kernmaster is not..
  6. What no ropeswing video Jesse?
  7. Sounds good Adam, Im really looking forward to making it as tricky as possible.. A nice long limb for the plumbob with no redirect potential above perhaps:sneaky2: Just kidding! Really keen to get up this year. Missed it the last couple and been really peeved..
  8. Spot on that man! If only the climber had the smarts to install a ground based rescue system before going up on his ascenders you wouldn't have to bother!! At the very least an alpine butterfly above your fixed base anchor!! Takes an extra 30 seconds!! Agreed that rescue from ascenders is much trickier than with a wrench/HH/uni/bone/whatever. With the advances in climbing I personally cant see the need for ascenders as a main point of attachment to the rope even for access. Fair enough in rope access work where transfers between ropes are common. But to access a tree where we will not be constantly changing ropes, a wrench is much safer, even if you then change onto a doubled rope system at the top.
  9. Maybe he likes it.. there's no accounting for your bad taste:sneaky2: Nice work and edit John. Hopefully see you down your way in March. Think Im hanging around to do some work with Marcus after the workshop on the 14th
  10. If their anchor point can take it and the rope is not damaged you can rescue up the climbers tail whether they are srt or ddrt. We demonstrate this at the introduction to srt workshop at treekit. Otherwise the rescue could/should be the same as any normal rescue regardless of the climbing system. In the worst case pickoff scenario with the climber on a stationary rope, it's fairly easy to install a prussic/ascender above their system and run their tail through it creating mechanical advantage. This is why in an ideal world a rescue/access line is left in the tree. Or even better have two climbers in the tree on large pruning jobs. For removals a set of spikes for the would be rescuer would be beneficial. Or assuming a lowering line is free and not tied off to a branch that could also be used to your advantage. As LolerUK says.... PRACTICE!!!!!!!
  11. Its the bomb.. Its all I use
  12. I have to disagree. Its not better or worse.. Just different. Ive been using a knee ascender way before the haas was "invented" and a home made one can be just as good and much less bulky and more versatile. It just takes some patience to get it dialed in for your own personal step.
  13. knut is the best compromise in terms of good performance but reliable grip in my experience.
  14. 10mm op and a cinch is my go to setup.. double thumbs up
  15. Nice one John, How can you have a bone and not use it all the time?!!.... Im just jealous
  16. Niiiice
  17. Try a cinch also for anyone replacing their rope in the sidewinder. Yeah ocean poly 10mm is lovely and easily splicable but no you cant get quite as much in.. especially when you don't put enough spring tension on when putting it back together lol Next up 10mm dynamic rope
  18. basically.. what we can tell from the variety of answers is.. you just have to experiment and see what works for you. I like a short hitch.. some like longer. Ive never found a cord that wont grab a rope, just change the knot you tie. Add a wrap or a twist? or change the length of the cord?
  19. HRC on cougar
  20. If its a really tight crotch that wont talk your full weight you can use a prussic the otherside of the redirect onto your line, then lanyard into that so your weight stays in the rope, then pass the system through the fork..
  21. i dont think the spacer is over here yet
  22. my cougar puke is good. my new cougar blue is slightly bouncier than my old cougar blue.. BUT it is longer too. has milked about 1ft over 60m
  23. you must have been using it wrong
  24. It does flatten off but its the bo-lax
  25. Got the kiwi on my ali geckos. love it!!!
