  1. Easy John, don't rush your decision. Why not start a thread where people can offer their opinions on different trailers then make your mind up. Have you considered how much cider they can carry?
  2. I may as well go cos theres still no work here in Sussex. I don't know why people bother setting up business round here. AAAh well... see you guys there then.
  3. Walking across the customer's lawn instead of using the path. Groundie not keeping the climber's rope tidy under the tree. Groundie watching branches go right through the chipper before picking up the next piece. Anyone who looks carefully for the smallest log to carry out.
  4. Its all about where you get your replacement parts from and if you are willing to do it yourself. Two years back I got a second hand gearbox for £200 for my defender, fitted it myself. This week I'm getting a replacement transfer box for £80, I'll fit that myself too. Given the abuse my landy gets and a hap hazard maintenance schedule I think it does me just fine.
  5. If you watch the film Green Street - theres a scene in it where the leader of the Millwall mob is talking to a West Ham fan in a cafe and a couple on the next table keep talking too loud. I think his reaction is what you are looking for. Sorry I haven't got the skill to attach just that piece here.
  6. What will this do to the iminent release of the VW/Stihl collaboration - The 125cc diesel powered top handled chainsaw?
  7. Hmm.... based on your avatar maybe try dressing down a touch?
  8. If you can find a buyer for each item you will make more selling individually, though that option may well extend the selling timescale. A guy down our way retired a few years back and got an auctioneer in to arrange a sale. There were hundreds of people turned up and the prices stuff was going for was stupidly high. No idea what the comission was but I'd say he got a heck of a lot of money from the sale. Just a thought.
  9. I did a bit of climbing a few weeks back, prussicking up an old Walnut. Within two minutes I had a knackered tendon (electric shock feeling from ring finger to elbow). I couldn't cut a loaf of bread for two weeks. Took me 4 weeks to be able to swing a golf club. At this rate I'll have to avoid using the Zimmer for a while. Will I complete my 3rd lap to 20 years old?
  10. I sometimes think I would have enjoyed being a detective. Different stuff every day, putting away scumbags. No doubt frustrating at times when magistrates and judges seem so lenient but hey.... could be fun being a real life Gene Hunt.
  11. Just tried and the keeper block seem to be interchangable. I'll try to post a review of the rhino teeth in the next couple of days. Quite impressed so far.
  12. It actually says Stein on their web-site.
  13. Shane

    Crane job

hoots! that looks like a challenge. Do you have your CS756B certificate (using an angle grinder from rope and harness)?
  14. I'm too busy going out desperately seeking work - there's none round here in Sussex.
  15. It may seem unfair that we train someone up then they leave to set up on their own and become a competitor, but how many on here went straight into running their own company without getting ANY experience working for someone else? My trainee wrote to me last year (while he was still at school) asking if he could just come along and see if he thinks tree work is for him, before applying to any college. Thats a bit of forward thinking and attitude I liked. So he is with us now. PS still now work round here - steer clear of Sussex all work has dried up.
  16. Got me! It's crap... theres no work round here. No idea why people bother. Mind you I've got a lovely matching van and chipper. Thinking of getting a couple of unimogs and a 24 inch conehead chipper soon, just for Mrs Migggins apple trees.
  17. I've got a trainee. He started a few weeks ago and is doing a 2 year arb course at Plumpton. We are treating him like an apprentice. Is the reason there are swarms of tree surgeons in Sussex because of the amount of work round here? maybe in future when someone asks how work is we should all say its crap.
  18. Not much good for getting from A to B .... By the time you've gone through the gears you're at C or D.
  19. Maybe the wealthy 'Western' and Far Eastern powers (who have done so much to screw up the environment) should pay the 'underdeveloped' rainforest owners to keep the trees rather than have dicks like Sting and Bono doing their high and mighty emotional blackmail and going on about how awful it is that they are cutting them down 'just to make money'. If keeping trees had the same economic effect as extracting oil I recon we would all be living in a massive forest.
  20. Theres nowt wrong with anything if it's used for what it was designed for. Cheapo tools to 'get by - without spending too much' Stihl tools to look the part and have an excuse to visit the dealer frequently, and your loan arranger. BMWs to sell drugs from, impress the down-market neighbours and look like a nob. Whatever works for you - and gonads to what others think.
  21. Put it on ebay and someone will cut it down for you, process it and pay you hundreds! Sorry, back on planet earth, if you process it, work out the volume, then look on-line at what others charge for unseasoned hardwood logs of the same volume. FWIW I recon you will fill a bit more than one bag with that - so its worth a try.
  22. Blimey - that's what you call a reaction. Only one I got that was near that on the richter scale was when my wife told me she was preganant and I replied 'Thats going to bugger up my training schedule' Coincidentally we didnt go to Malta as a result of that.
  23. Do what you think is best - then change your id to Dolmardusky.
  24. I used the rhino keeper blocks but I'll try the muti tip ones and report back. The Rhino stuff is all laser cut and seems more pecise than the cast multi tip compnents. Because of a few nicks in my flywheel I had to smooth them out with a file first but when it was cleaned up they felt like a really tight fit.
